What have Solihull, Liverpool, Newton Abbot, Swansea and a few other places got in common ?
Yes, they've all got campers coming to our Blues festival this year.
There's a couple of new initiatives for this year's Blues, the main one being provision for camping.
Campers will be given vouchers for showering at the Leisure Centre.
The meal marquee will be open during the concerts.
This means that transport to the Leisure and places of refreshment wouldn't go amiss.
So a shuttle minibus will be running a circular route from the Park to The Railway to the bus bays from 3 until 7 on the Friday and 9 until 3 on Sat. ( On Sat it will extend to the Leisure from the bus bays ie. Park...Railway...Bays...Leisure....Railway....Park.
Although primarily for the campers obviously as concert time approaches some people might wish to hop on in town and go up to the park.
Please feel free to use it.
It's a free service that I've arranged - but I would be grateful if you dropped a bit of loose change into a collecting box for the Mayor's Appeal that will be on there.
The other initiative is discounts from some businesses for Blues goers.
Although up in the air at the moment I'll try to get a definitive list of what's where by early next week. _________________ Rocke
Lisa in Marenghi's Cafe is doing free tea or coffee with a meal for Blues goers.
Tomorrow I'll be about trying to search out a few more opportunities to show how welcoming we are.
This is the start, mark my words.
I've already had someone say they've been trying to get camping for 3 years at least.
There's between 30 and possibly 50 people who'll benefit from it this year but believe me this is just the start of a plan to get Aber's name onto a wider stage.
Carys and the team deserve it to be a great event and hopefully these enhancements coupled with Aber people's reputation for music-loving ( oh yes, we've got a really good one ) will mean visitors from near and far mentioning our town in their localities. _________________ Rocke
Perhaps I'm wrong, but it seems that if local business is experiencing hard times where is the logic in passing up an opportunity to make a few bob extra. Now I know from reading this forum that there are those that believe I am so out of touch with life that I live in a world of my own with three friends and my mother who loves me out of a sentimental disorder that Mams have to even the most
unlovable types e.g the Krays. Anyway to cut a long story short The Blues is very close to my heart and research has shown that it is an art form beloved of the left wing. So let me say I believe quality is what attracts the crowds not a discount dinner, bargain breakfast or cheap coffee. A few weeks ago I saw Johnny Winter at the Globe in Cardiff and 2 weeks back Councillor Delwyn Davies and myself were present at the BB King[KING OF THE BLUES] and John Mayall [Father of British blues] at the CIA, now I went for the reasons stated in brackets and in the case of Winter to see the greatest white blues guitarist ever - in my humble opinion. I was not attracted by Cardiff's cheap beer or the lure of their cut price international cuisine.
So why the hell don't Abertillery make the most of the opportunity that the 5th annual blues festival offers _________________ This is my truth. Now tell me yours.
I was told there was a closing down sale on aber online with all the borough, town councillors and managers (I bet there are more than a few registered looking at the members list) busy clambering over one another pimping up their own profiles and selling themselves. Reading through the messages over the last week I don't see many positive response thank you and congratulary messages from the powers that be to those volunteers, traders charities and schools who worked hard organised and participated in the many town events over the last week or so. Did any of you attend any event? It's no wonder Abertillery is singing the blues _________________ there isn't much to be seen in a little town........ but what you hear makes up for it(Candy quote)
Rather than follow you in changing the subject I am posting on the Aberfest thread.
Let's hope the Blues Festival is a resounding success again this year and fingers crossed the weather improves _________________ This is my truth. Now tell me yours.

I didn't attend any.
Do you have anything to say:
1) personally; and
2) constructively ( and I include criticism in that ) ? _________________ Rocke

I do read all the postings including yours even if dont comment much
I see you were working
I am not looking to score any points with anyone
I dont jump in on people with guns blazing
Who said it was aimed at you paticular like
But seems to me like you all got plenty of time to come on here hammer and tongs and pimping your selves or your parties and chums up but no time to make nice comments about things going on even if you only hear it second hand didn't you send reps or inquire.
Do any of you have any interests or hobbies besides politics some don't bother to reply to any other posts unless it is to put someone down _________________ there isn't much to be seen in a little town........ but what you hear makes up for it(Candy quote)
I think one of the problems is that if one's posts don't make it plain who or what the post is aimed at then you ( not you personally ) are always going to get people assuming it's aimed at them or something they've said.
Since you mentioned politics and the things politicians get up to, and all councillors are, sadly, looked upon as politicians I wanted to get more of a feel for the point you were making.
In all honesty I've got dragged into the grubby world of politics and I can understand people looking at any representative as simply out for their own ends, whether that be in terms of climbing the party greasy pole or making a living from being a representative.
I do agree with you that there's not an awful lot of recognition for the outstanding work that's being done not only by people who are being paid to do it ( and do it way above and beyond the call ) but also by local people who volunteer their help. This week's Gazette should give recognition, since the GAVO awards were the week before last.
I would also go a bit farther on this one. I also feel that some times the recognition given is regarded as 'the done thing'.
As for the praise you might think I should have given I don't think it proper to make comments that I can't substantiate or explain.
Strangely enough I think doing that is jumping on a populist bandwagon.
I will, however, be checking dates before booking holidays again.
I do feel that my place is to show some sort of support for events.
In this respect it hasn't been a good few weeks - work commitments prevented me from going to Aber Blues.
