Looks like winter 1981-2 to me jools. I got married at Christmas that year and my dad died in the January. I've got some photos myself somewhere - I'll have to dig them out. I think one is of the enormous pile of snow outside what was Barclay's bank next to the arcade, which you can just make out on the first photo. _________________ The compliments pass when the quality meet.

You would have been working with Gareth Wookey and Stewart Henderson then? _________________ The compliments pass when the quality meet.

I have been in touch with a few that worked down Lefray reciently it only seems like yesterday that it closed down. I never worked there myself but know quite a few who did.
The photos were taken in the snow of 1981/1982 I have a few others. Strange to see Church street full of people despite the weather and queing at Barrels, there was always a que even when the weather was fine, especially for fresh fish. I like the one taken of Division Street I remember that shop well. _________________ My life is no rehearsal There'll be no curtain call encore, so I've thrown my screwed up script away to ad lib my life once more! |

Something very weird happened to me regarding Lefrays recently. I was involved in 1983 (?) in organising demos in support of the workers who got locked out after joining a union. One Saturday the police turned out in force and beat up a few of us and arrested about twelve, incuding me. My brother-in-law's 15 year old girlfriend of the time was taken to hospital. I was taking photos which is the reason I was targetted IMHO. I ought to dig them out - they are quite an eye-opener
Anyway, a few weeks ago I was looking for the Supporters' Trust offices at Ninian Park and the person I saw in the office I recognised as someone from Cardiff who had been arrested the same day and was taken to Ebbw Vale cells with me in the van. He got a nice punch in the face in the van too I remember after he shouted through the window to tell the others where we were heading. To their credit both Michael Foot and Neil Kinnock got onto the police and we were all released by the end of the day.

Yep - things don't seem to have changed that much in respect of the police from the news stories this week.
I left in May 1982 but can remember the lock out the following year. I had good friends involved. I can't recall the names you mentioned sorry - I am hopeless with names and faces. I was only there from August 1981 to May 1982.
