Should there be double yellow lines where speed bumps are as you have to drive in the middle of the road to pass cars that are parkad just as you have zig zag lines at zebra crossings if you have a wide vehicle coming in the opersite directoin it can be a little scarey

For those people who live out the area it could come as quite a shock to come accross them and to end up in the middle of the road even if your sticking to the speed limit

If they are sticking to the legal 30mph speed limit they should have plenty of time to see the bumps so that they dont come as a shock but yes I agree there should be signs also.
As much as I think speed bumps are a pain in the arse I wish they had put them in place right across Roseheyworth road.

These are probably part of the 'safer routes to school' programme, initiated, I think, by WAG.

Also, some might remember a tragedy that happened near the bus stop a few years ago.
Speed doesn't just kill children.
Then it deprived some young children of a father.
Going home on his bike and hit by a souped-up Cavalier.

I think I'm right in saying it was doing more than 60...70...80 even.

I'm over 'the Civic' tomorrow and I'll enquire as to whether warning signs are on order.

Yellow lines?

I was in Abertillery last weekend, and noticed most people has ignored the yellow lines. The town needs a parking warden working on a Sunday. They would more than pay their way just walking up Gladstone Street.

How the bus makes it past all the cars is beyond me. If I drove the X15 I would take the side out of all the cars on purpose.

I agree that calming measures are needed and as MSD said should be right across the road because
if your in a wider wheel based vehicle these bumps will have no effect on your speed as you will be able to avoid them .I was doing the correct speed but as I drive a small car and they blend in with the road they were a shock

The Double-yellows aren't legally enforceable.
People don't get booked for parking on them - they get done for 'obstructing the highway'.
Hence you're only booked if there's been a complaint.

One answer ( which I'm trying to sound out ) might be making Gladstone and Oak Streets One Way.
That would enable parking and stop jams/bottlenecks ( caused by waiting for something coming the other way ).

Chutters, People live on Gladstone Street.(not me). Where do you suggest they park? Maybe 'up north' your chauffeur is burdoned with where to park, or is it a gravel drive and turning circle?

I would suggest they park legally. If the yellow lines are not enforceable then the lines should be erased and done properly.

What other driving rules should be ignored when it suits? Should I get drunk and drive because I can't be bothered with a taxi? How about speeding around residential streets so I can have an extra 5 minutes in bed in a morning?

'Up north' I have my own very nice parking space, which I paid for with my very own money. Parking on yellow lines 'up north' means you are towed away within about 5 minutes. It seems to work better than the free -for-all in Aber.

It may have something to do with the road resurfacing that's going on.

I am not a driver but I passed that way as a passenger and don't quite understand what the problem is. The speed ramps are there for a purpose...... to slow traffic down in the vicinity of a school.  If it helps to save lives the more the merrier. It's not only the boy racers that whiz past this area like a bat out of hell, other drivers do especially if they are late for work in the mornings everyone is in such a hurry these days and many have no consideration for other road users or pedestrians. It hurts no one to cut their speed on a small stretch of road or take an alternate route to avoid them

I have known worse in other town areas, the Union Road approach to Neville Hall for one, you have to slow down to a snails pace but it does the job they were intended for in the area where there is or was a creche and staff living accommodation and children/patients walking or playing.

I thought you were still moaning about Roseheyworth, not familiar with the Boulevard, that term may be more familiar to the boy racers, I know it as Division street or top road.  That is a major problem area, there was an accident there a few months ago when a car came hurtling down from the road to the lane below, thankfully nobody was out walking their dog as so often the do that time of the evening. It is a favourite with boy racers circling the town

Chidren to have to cross there or further down Divison street opposite the Stute to go to school at Gelli Grug.  The speed the traffic comes round that corner makes crossing at the junction of Park Place which is so very close to the bend really dangerous. There has been a good number of accidents there thankfully nobody has been killed but unless measures to slow the traffic down before aproaching the bend it is only a matter of time

I,d like to ask the same question as monky, why remove the speed ramps on ocean boulevard so soon after fitting at great expense.
Have the council received a job lot of tar, with work going on here  also high street, the bottom of station hill, oppisite the comprehensive school
richmond road. Or is it the irish road gangs annual holidays. why does this work have to happen at the same time

Sorry Mr Monk i didnt wish to upset a forum member so soon ,i will
adress you as Mr Monk and maybe in time when iv,e earnt my forum stars
call you ade or monky.
It seems Mrs Monks observations have confimed my suspicions.A boy racers xtra large exaust being damaged during take off maybe speed bump didnt conform to size thus its replacement. There may have also been a cat no not the type to reduce emissons but the furry type inside it as the size of ones exaust bore seems to reflect size of manhood.
The shock of the bump in the road probably made him alter his seat position from horizontal to vertical. maybe? Also spill his juice and dislodge his cap.
