The Canyon needs your help again, this time we fear that after a meeting with Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent rights of way officers, the developers may be trying to block off the rights of way we all use in and around the canyon.

I attach a form from the Torfaen rights of way officer. Could as many people as possible fill it in to prove the many rights of way are and have been in public use for some time.

It might be worth getting in touch with Fiona Ford the rights of way officer in Torfaen (details below), before you start filling it in, she should be able to advise you on how to fill out the form, I understand for instance that she needs one form per right of way.

We are also worried that Blaenau Gwent's opposition to the application may
be a little weak. The lake which is half in Blaenau Gwent will be destroyed.

It is Blaenau Gwent residents who will have to suffer the noise, dust and traffic. I think Blaenau Gwent should respond strongly on our behalf. Please contact the Council's planning and countryside sections and your local Councillor to find out what they are doing and to let them know that you would like the application stopped.

We have heard a rumour that the survey of the traffic on the A472 that was promised by Blaenau Gwent may not happen. If you know anyone who uses that already congested road between Crumlin and Pontypool, let them know about
the 100 extra lorries a day and try to get them to write in and object.

Thanks again for your support.

At Blaenau Gwent Colin Cheeseman is in charge of the section that deals with Rights of Way. Last time I spoke to him he was starting work on his response to the planning application. Perhaps it might be a good time to contact Blaenau Gwent and our councillors just to remind them that this quarry will
effect the people and environment of Llanhilleth, St Illtyd, Soffryd and Brynithel just as much, if not more than anyone in Torfaen.
