Your boys took one hell of a beating
Fantastic game at Ninian Park yesterday in front of 20,000. Best football I've seen from a Cardiff side in 28 years of watching them. It's a long season ahead but at the moment...
We are top of the league, say we are top of the league
Ellis, I fear that with such a small squad injuries, supsensions and general weariness will take their toll later in the season. But you never know we might be able to stay where we are. Meanwhile I am happy to be watching some excellent football for a change
Well another full house, sparkling football and four goals against one of our promotion rivals. May not last but it's a good time to be supporting Cardiff, our local football league team.
All well and good and I hope they will do it but if they are in the same position in a few months time Cardiff must think what they are going to do next season. They must enter into discussion with the WRU to use the Millenium Stadium for certain games next season or all of them. Ninian Park is not an option if they are promoted. _________________
I don't pretend to know much about football and it is good to see Cardiff City riding high at the top of the league. However I work with a few staunch City fans from the City and they all say the same thing. It's 3 or 4 years too early to go up to the Prem. they cannot afford it and would be straight back down the following season. They would prefer to wait until they can compete at that higher level week in week out.
Ellis - the MillStad would be an option for the handful of games (Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool) when we would have a good chance of filling it. On the other hand one of the main advantages we have is Ninian Park where not too may teams enjoy playing and lots of them are too intimidated by the noise to put on a good performance.
If the FA gave us a year's grace (until the new stadium is ready) to allow standing at NP we can still get 20,000 in there which would be acceptable. If they insist on all-seating then it would be more of a problem. Counting chickens here though I think
Eddie - I know what you are saying but I don't think Championship teams are ever ready for the step up to the Premiership and they are always going to struggle. Look at Sheffield Utd who have been on the brink of promotion for years and still look dead certs for relegation.
The financial rewards of playing in the top division are so immense that I think you just have to go for it. Even if you come straight back down you are many, many millions better off ready for your next attempt. It must be a lot nicer to watch your team winning week in week out in the Championship rather than watch them beaten most weeks in the Prem but as Del Boy and the SAS say 'He who dares...'
Meanwhile if you are a fan of fluid, attacking football then get yourself down to Cardiff for the Southampton game on 17 October to watch some top-class entertainment. But don't hang about as it looks like being another sell-out.
The financial rewards of playing in the top division is something to aspire to but the financial costs can also ruin a club you only have to look no further than Leeds Utd. Top of the Premiership semi's of the champions league then a trip down to lowly Cardiff and look at them now. They sold there soul to the devil and lost. Ridsdale is the devil as you WILL find out.
I can see where you are coming from but there are sides in which the opposite has happened and they they have survived. They have to aspire not to go under like Leeds and gain the support of the local council and businesses, after all Cardiff is a big city and go for it. _________________
Cardiff is a big city and go for it. Here Here. You are right there is not much point in playing week in week out but as I said earlier that was the thought of some City living supporters. However big city or not and it is the biggest in Wales but you do wonder where all the money is coming from for all this investment in sport new ice rink new stadium revamp for sophia gardens the list goes on. what will suffer the valleys (Valleywood maybe) LOL
I'd like to think Ridsdale learnt his lesson with Leeds and he has in fact been fundamental to bringing CCFC's finances under control. Although I was devastated when we wouldn't stump up the cash WBA wanted for Jason Koumas in the summer (the best footballer I've seen at Cardiff) at the same time I was pleased that it was a sign that we are determined to stay within our budget.
I think Eddie that enough clubs have suffered from the perils of overspending when getting into the Premiership for most not to succumb to the temptation. Dave Jones has built our current side for much less than the price we got for selling Cameron Jerome to Brum.
In any case if your mates go down to NP hoping we lose in case we get into the Premiership they are some of the stranger fans we get down there.
Oh and by the way Eddie, whatever the Millstad and other sporting facilities in Cardiff may have cost the tax payer and attracted public money away from the valleys, the new CCFC stadium is being financed by the club and private industry.
