Well now’s you have your chance after the council have organised a series of history walks to take place throughout the borough during June and July.
Blaenau Gwent Council’s Heritage Officer Frank Olding will lead the walks taking in the industrial and wartime archaeology of the county borough.
On Monday, June 22, between 10am and 3pm, walkers will be looking at the Bryn Oer Tramroad that was built in 1815 to connect the ironworks and collieries of Blaenau Gwent with the Brecon and Monmouth Canal at Talybont-on-Usk.
The walk is around 10 miles and walkers are asked to meet at the Top House in Trefil.
On Wednesday, June 24, between 10am and 4.30pm, walkers will travel along the Bailey Trail for a guided walk looking at the industrial archaeology associated with the infamous Crawshay and Joseph Bailey, the Nantyglo Ironmasters.
Walkers on the 12 mile trip are asked to meet at Brynmawr Museum on Market Square.
On Friday, June 26, between 10am and 3pm, walkers will take the Fothergill Trail.
Meet at Sirhowy Ironworks for the trip that covers eight miles across Rassau Railroad, Trefil Railroad, Trefil village and quarries and the Tredegar and Bryn Oer Tramroad.
The walk is around eight miles. Meet at Sirhowy Ironworks, Graham’s Yard.
On July 14, between 10am to 3pm, the walk has been entitled prehistoric and medieval Blaenau Gwent.
The walk covers six miles and those interested are asked to meet in Cwm.
On Friday, July 17, between 10am and 3pm, walkers will learn about the archaeology of St Illtyd’s
This walk will cover approximately five miles.
