Blaenau Gwent council have outlined their plans once again for a massive makeover of the town.
Deputy leader of the council Nigel Daniels stated "mistakes have been made in the past with regeneration projects in Abertillery and we didn't want to repeate those. This time we have consulted thoughly with traders and the public to find out what they want. If the new plans go ahead millions of pounds will be spent on regenerating the town.

I suggest that the council confer with other councils on what it takes to make a Town nice and modern there are plenty of good examples about.Since Nuneaton was transformed from a tatty scruffy town I have just read in the local paperthat the footfall through the new shopping Mall has reached five million .since the new shopping mall was opened last Christmas and that all the traders have benifitted from it.The main reason for the town now doing so well is that the Town Centre is traffic free zone from 10-am to 5-pm at exactly 10-am the automic barriers go up and anyone still parked in the town centre after that has to pay a £30 fine to have the barriers dropped to let them out ITS GREAT to be able to walk about without the fear of getting run over, just rember the secret of regenerating a new town is to get a good car park built first then every thing else will fall into place

Thanks for your post not sure how it got tangled up with the quote but I cannot read a word. Can you edit it to normal or large for others. I can copy and paste it into an e mail and enlarge the font to be able to read it but others may not be able to do this. _________________ My life is no rehearsal There'll be no curtain call encore, so I've thrown my screwed up script away to ad lib my life once more!

Your web browser is probably capable of this. If you use IE, go to View > Text Size > and then choose the size of text you want. You can always reset it afterwards if it doesn't do the job. _________________ GK
Flipping heck you lost me now. I do not use IE so have not tried any thing else. I have set windows to set my font for all things IM and email to large so never have to adjust it. I normally copy and paste into my email and it enlarges it automaticaly. I do the same sometimes for answering messages I write into e mail which shows a large font so that I can see and check spelling if I can be bothered, then copy and paste it back to the message board. On a good day I can see fine if the text is fairly normal but if very small no chance. I know there are others that are worse sighted than I and new to the internet and may well be less technically proficient to do what you suggest. _________________ My life is no rehearsal There'll be no curtain call encore, so I've thrown my screwed up script away to ad lib my life once more!
I am using AOL. IE is too boring I copy and paste that way if I find the text too small or if my eyes are a bit tired saves eye strain. _________________ My life is no rehearsal There'll be no curtain call encore, so I've thrown my screwed up script away to ad lib my life once more!
You should still be able to change the text size with the aol browser (probably based on IE). Accessibility is a major issue for software developers these days. _________________ GK
Maybe a new category is in order ie. Technical Help where is our webmaster when you need him? _________________ My life is no rehearsal There'll be no curtain call encore, so I've thrown my screwed up script away to ad lib my life once more!

We do have a barrier at the High Street end of Church Street which closes off only the bottom end of Church Street. Problem is that it also closes off Church Street for deliveries to the shops out of hours with result delivery vans and all other traffic gain access to the top end of Church Street when the barrier is down via the side streets. On times with Church Street being one way some have been known to reverse back down. On the other hand when the barriers are lifted in the evening Church Street becomes a racing track with drivers accessing the ATM at the bank and others at top speed just for the hell of it. With the main car park closed after 5. 30 Church Street and the surrounding side streets become parking areas especially if there are evening activities in either the Churches or Institute. _________________ My life is no rehearsal There'll be no curtain call encore, so I've thrown my screwed up script away to ad lib my life once more!
iHi carolyn the reason our towncentre is traffic free between 10am and 5pm is that all 5 entrance roads to the actuall town centre is because these barries work automaticly all deliverys to all premisis in the town must be over by 10am hence no traffic plus the fact all the roads are one way within the town centre. We are very lucky to have a fair amount of car parks but liuke every where else people will insist on blocking the side streets (to the annoyance of the residents)rather than pay for a place in the car parks .you can park all night on some of the car parks for 50p from 7pmto 7am but the main car parks that serve the town centre are locked up at 8pm every night,Cars in the town at night yes but not a great problem
Regeneration seems to be a long time coming we have had all the talk for over four years but not much is happening, more shops closing and more takeaways opening. I saw the plans in the library years ago but was away on holidays at the time of consultation this time. The plans outlined in the paper were not that informative and did not include any of the plans drawn up last time, like the library or plans for the disabled, opening up the town or sorting out the rat problem, some of the main things the regeneration partnership were set up to do. I see they include parking which is much needed and the work going on up the metropole is great but what is the time scale on these plans. I for one will not be holding my breath this time. Not sure what is meant by a makeover but Bob Smith made a good suggestion in the Gwent Gazette this week.
