Word gets around quickly doesn't it?

BGCBC have been sending letters to shop occupiers asking that they leave their premises UNshuttered during the day - even if the shop or whatever is shut.

Apparently it presents a better image for the town.
Probably coincidence but perhaps Eddie Windsor asked what 'those things in front of shop windows are, is it a tradition of the Valleys?'

Perhaps someone from the Council would have replied 'no, it's where we lock up our entrepreneurs because by that very definition they are Tories'.

Anyway, back to reality.
So, a business person lives in Tredegar, they come all the way over here to open the shutters despite it being their day off and then all the way back over to put them down again.

Perhaps the council would provide the McCarthymobile to help them?
It might get a better response.

How about this for an idea, the Council could employ a local artist to paint a vibrant shop interior on to the shutter fronts. The shops won't even have to bother with opening up then. They could even paint a vibrant town centre on ply board, with litter free streets, happy, smiling people going to and from work. They could paint public toilets that are open. Even better they could commission the artist to paint workmen working on the road works which are now a constant. They could paint feeder buses to Llanhillith train station, but only until they have painted Abertillery train station.

Or they could do what they always seem to do, buy a very large tin of white paint and a sweeping brush...and white wash over the whole sorry state which happens to be Abertillery

I recall someone said demolish buildings that are not needed, I agree, "Less is More". EU Grants are wasted building rubbish, when they become dirty and damaged repairs and maintenance can not be afforded. Chatter is that Church St has to be redesigned, as emergency vehicles can not negotiate it, well planned (NOT).

Emergency vehicles, snow ploughs, my car - you name it.

The plans were queried when proposed (I know - I was on the 'greater Abertillery regeneration panel' at the time).
I was assured that all was well, and was reassured by then elected members for Abertillery Ward that they would ensure things were OK.

I'll leave it at that.

T Bone, I assume your idea was "tongue in cheek", however  to brighten towns some countries do paint bright cartoons on town walls, shuttering etc, it's quite effective at cheering people, which could lead to a more positive attitude in the community. Chatter is part of Somerset St maybe regenerated with private money from out of town.
