This is the first time in the pool, so please bear with me! Is there anyone in Aber who remembers, or who has certain knowledge of the life and demise of Poplar Row? There were ten houses there, but now only three remain!.I lived in number 7 until 1946 when I left Aber. and have not returned since. I would so much like to have a chat to someone about the Row as it would bring back such fond memories of the place and the people. I can still remember the name o everyone who lived in numbers 1 to 7. Heres
hoping to get some contact. Cheers! Royston.

Hi Royston,I remember you living in Poplar Row,if I remember rightly you were tallish and had wavy/curly hair. Am I right in saying that you went to the County School and not the Technical School, which is the one that I went to,you probably went to the Cock and Chick Junior and the Crown Infant schools, the same as myself.I also believe you were in the R.A.F. about the same time as myself 1948 to 1950,my name is John Griffin, and I lived at No15 Ty Bryn Road, two doors up from Ree's Bakery and garage.I used to say Hello to you as you went past my house,I believe you used to visit someone in Blaenau Gwent rows, the second row down from the top row.I don't live in Abertillery now,but in Croesyceiliog,Cwmbran, its about 13 miles from Abertillery, but my wife and I always visit there every fortnight as we both have relatives there.Have I got the right Royston,I think I have. All the best, John Griffin.

I lived in Neaudd street from 1943 until 1958/9.My name is Jill Berry formerly Whatley, and my parents were Bill and Betty. We lived at number 4 with my Grandparents Granville(Grall) and Gwen Jones fomerly Matthews.Gwen had a brother called Llewellyn, who I believe had a son called Royston.I remember walking to school up Neaudd st.,turning right at poplar row and on up Royal lane, across Spring Bank and up to The Crown School.Names I recall are Martin Davis-who lived in the second house on Royal Lane-his father was a milkman, Janet Venn who lived opposite and many others. I later went to Abertillery Grammar School, there was a boy called Roy Jenkins in my class-he lived in Poplar row.Although I was only 4 or 5 I remember Royston leaving to join the Air Force.
