Blaina Communities First is looking to run an accredited summer rock school.
Rock school is an educational provision designed for budding musicians who wish to further themselves in to field of music / performing arts, while also building confidence and self-esteem. This innovative course has the capacity to cater for 20 students aged 11 - 18 consisting of - 5 drummers, 5 bass players,5 guitarists and 5 vocalist, week commencing 10th August 2009.

Throughout the duration of Rock School students will receive personal instrument tuition from expert tutors, developing skills such as technique, tuning, set up and music theory. Students also work with a designated tutor to form a band with other musicians on the course, developing skills such as stagecraft, live performance, composition and arrangement.

All of the knowledge and experience learned during Rock School culminates in a final performance. This enables pupils to demonstrate the skills they have learned throughout the course, to peers, tutors, friends and family in a celebration evening.

One group is selected from each Rock School course delivered to perform at the Rock School Summer Ball in front of a panel of music industry experts, who will then select a group to perform, live at a major venue.

Rock School is accredited by City & Guilds with all pupils leaving the course with a Level One wider key skills qualification encompassing problem solving working with others and improving own learning and performance.

If you or know of anyone who would be interested, please contact Nicola on 01495 291694 or email nicola.breeze@gavowales.org.uk

All applicants need to register with Nicola by close of play Friday 10th July 2009
