On an old map dated 1885 approx there is a building situated close to the river in an area which looks to be near or around what was later to become Abertillery Park called Spiders Castle. Anyone know where or what this is or why it was given this name.

Blaenau Gwent is shrouded in old myths and ledgends and I wondered if it came from there. Three or fours years ago the BGCBC web site included some facinating Arthurian accounts and ledgends, folklore of Abertillery and Llanhilleth, (The only thing of any real interest on this web site now gone) I cannot remember any details which may have included Spiders Castle.
