Has anyone seen the photo on page 15 of the Gwent Gazette. Someone has submitted a photo of what is suposedly St Illyds? It seems to have changed it's shape and position and has a whole new village built around it. Laughing

Think not.

Hi Ian

Re: automatically checking you in. I assume that this is done using cookies. Do you have cookies enabled on your browser? Or maybe you are in the habit of cleaning up after yourself eg deleting cookies and temporary files? Very laudable Laughing but again I assume this would cause you to have to log in each time

Guess you could always ask admin, it used to work initially but I have never had the need to use it as I can remember my password easily each time so there is no need for me to remain permanently logged in. Useful if you already have too many passwords and difficult to remember them for each individual site you register with. A bit technophobic in this area Laughing

Of course the picture on page 15 of the Gwent gazzette isn't St. Illtyd
But surely anyone can see it's Christchurch, Aberbeeg.
And perhaps it was taken fom St.Illtyds , afterall they are on opposite sides of the valley!

If you say so Brian, but it does look mighty flat to be Christchurch, and the main part of church has also gained an extra window, Aberbeeg did not look so affluent the last time I saw it and a couple of new roads no doubt..

PS where is the hospital? Then again the wonders of digital photography must be a new camera angle.

Not knocking the Gwent Gazette, indeed I buy it every week and have done for years, or the photographer just think there is a mix up. It happens to the best and I am sure we will have an explanation next week.

My point was that it is not St. Illytds.

Doesn't look very `flat` to me.
Actually it looks exactly the same as the view from the Cemetery Road at Brynithel.
And as for your PS `where is the hospital? Then again the wonders of digital photography must be a new camera angle.`
It's not a wonder of digital photography but simply NATURE!
Take good look at the picture and you will plainly see, on the right had side the hospital partially obscured by the Trees!

May I suggest that you use `Google Earth` and enter the co-ordinates
51 42 27.11N 3 08 53.63W to get a view of Christchurch Aberbeeg and confirn that the picture in the Gazette is actually of this area and not St.Illtyd.
In the Gazette picture Pant Ddu Fields can clearly be seen although the `main` road, Pantddu Road, leading from the bottom of Aberbeeg up to Christchurch is obscured by the trees as is part of the hospital which can be seen in the upper right hand side of the picture.

My other half said it was Christchurch and I guessed as much also but wondered who else did. Very Happy It is in the parish of Llanhilleth but not St. Illytds
