Now that Station Hill has re-opened, can anyone explain the strange shaped curb at the top and also what we are supposed to be looking up at in the Town Centre? As per the banners on the lamposts!

The strange shaped curb is another ploy to bring all traffic to a standstill    If we look directly UP Abertillery becomes as interesting as anywhere else in the world  sky  clouds  sun  moon

I think ( says something doesn't it, a councillor having to guess what's going on ? ) that the extension's there to prevent cars flying straight down Station Hill.

I hope ( says something doesn't it, a councillor not knowing what's occuring ? ) that the banners are to show how shows etc can be advertised to people coming in to Aber.
Perhaps we'll charge a small fee for birthday greetings.................

Seriously, I'll have a ferret about and get the definitive version.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry about my spelling I think it should have been KERB! but I'm glad you knew what I meant. Why don't they change the give way to the bottom of Gladstone Street instead of the top of Station Hill? Wouldn't that be better? I suppose that Iceland and also (Rumours only) BM bargains coming to the town would mean things looking up? I prefer your idea of posting birthday messages, better that sheets hanging on railings!

Actually mgriff I have a cunning plan afoot to do exactly as you suggest ( plus a few other goodies ).

All I need is the robust support of a few other councillors and our officers being able to deliver the goods ( by that I mean that they can find a way around any daft regulation that might prevent the plans coming into life ).

btw. 'curb' might have been a great Freudian slip. It's certainly stopping the traffic to a certain extent !

Without exception everyone I've spoken agree what a mess the road system has become   Someone once suggested allocating areas for vans buses trucks taxis to park up away from residential streets   I think that is a fantastic idea

Couldn't agree more there ( the roads in a mess that is ).

I've canvassed a lot of opinions regarding a few changes and it seems everyone thinks they're good ideas.
They revolve around those listed in a thread I started last year.

We'll see what happens.

The kerbstones have been removed   What extra did that cost  I beleive 3 sets of traffic lights was involved  plus labour costs etc etc   I doubt we will ever get to know who sanctioned the work   If I did a simular thing in my job I would be reprimanded and quite rightly so

Finally got the info !!

It seems that the 'lip' or whatever you want to call it was the result of a bit of a cock-up.
For some reason the contractor misread the drawings, resulting in the creation of whatever it was.

It seems that consideration had been given to narrowing the road with a view to stopping the racers flying down the hill but it was shelved. However the contractor seemed to have got the idea that this was to be built. It was definitely out of proportion to what had been considered anyway.

I know it shouldn't be trivialised but I hope this isn't a case of a tea stain or something being taken as work to be done.

And in case anyone asks about the weird markings on the Cwrt Mytton lane, it's to show that Station Hill traffic has priority to come onto Alma St. over and above that coming past Cwrt Mytton.

Cheers.

Thank you for the info regarding Station Hill, its great to have someone who can get to the bottom of things. I have yet to see any birthday messages on the banners adorning the lamposts tho', they are still using sheets on railings!

I agree with you Martyn, but I still think the white lines at the bottom of Station Hill need altering,at the moment they don't make a lot of sense.

Yep.

I'm about to put forward a scheme that will see a mini-roundabout at the bottom of Station Hill, as part of what I think will be changes that will have a huge impact on the problematic traffic flow in, out and around Station Hill.

'The week that was' for next week ie. in 2 weeks time will detail the reception it got ( and of course what it is ).

One thing about the junction at the bottom - I'm not sure if anyone has realised that the junction has now been set back some 5 yards up Station Hill. It's opened up a wider junction on to Castle St ( yes, that's what the road past the Library is ) and thereby enabled 2 cars to queue together.
This has actually created scope for a mini-roundabout as I see it.

More to follow.

Martyn ( ad of course Sunbeam ) - thanks for the support but without being funny ( or political ) I think this is what should be expected of elected representatives. It's unfortunate that giving people the full story is regarded as a good, out of the ordinary thing.
That doesn't detract from my appreciation for your comments - thanks.

Rocke  Good idea about the mini roundabout  how about one at the junctions of Cwm Cottage Road  Princess Street  and Somerset Street by the War Memorial    I don't know if there has ever been an accident there   but there should have been    It's quite confusing who has right of way
