That's if I make it to the Blues after work.
Monday morning wakeup call ( it was just after 10, but having to go to all these licenced premises on Sundays to make sure all's well does take its toll ) - trouble with new tenants on one of the estates.
They hadn't even moved in but the paint they were using to decorate their council house ready for their move somehow found its was onto someone's gate - and one of our walls, and a handrail, and another part of the wall, and someone else's kitchen window, and finally someone's car.
Up I go and then it's over to our Housing department.
Our Housing Manager gets on the case and our officer goes up the next day, gets the facts and action's being taken. The police aren't that quick however, despite a pretty good response on the evening in question I gather.
Late Monday afternoon and I was chatting about pitch allocations.
This is a nightmare of everybody's making !
Nearly all pitches in the Abertillery area are in Cwmtillery Ward ( yes, even The Park ! ). This makes it virtually impossible to make a pitch a truly home ground for teams in that locality.
The days when The Woodland was easily shared between Cwmtillery Rugby and Excelsiors football are long gone.
Now there's clubs with 3 senior sides, 5 youth teams and Lord knows what else. It's a nightmare apparently trying to keep everyone happy.
Anyway, we've a principle of 'prime users' ie. where a side is long-established and has always used a particular ground we try to fit them in first and so on.
The problem is that clubs form more and more sides - Excelsiors are now hoping to run a 4th senior side. Also, the Leagues don't produce their fixture lists until the 11th hour.
Hopefully explaining the principle will help clubs understand the allocations and hopefully they'll all work together where there are clashes.
Monday evening was a CLEAN meeting.
This group of public-spirited citizens who look after The Lakes and its surrounds got an award at the GAVO event for their work.
Well done to them all. They are a credit to themselves.
There's a lot of good work gone and continuing to go into that part of the area, driven by them and powered by Cwmtillery CF. Hopefully us councillors will be able to get funds additional to the £170,000 HARPS allocation into the entire Cwmtillery/Blaentillery area.
I'm developing a strategy which Delwyn and Mark will be sharing, so that we can go mob-handed get things moving.
Tuesday morning and I was over the Rhyd Hall pub in Tredegar ( no, on business ). Licencing Sub-Committee due to the owners requesting an extension to licencing hours and live music - outside as well.
A petition of over 140 names had been sent in objection to this request.
Now, signing such a petition makes a person an 'interested party' who is allowed to make personal representations to the sub-committee.
However, since the Rhyd is 30-40 yards for the nearest house that objected - and 400-500 yards form the residence of some of the petitioners - not all of those can be regarded as properly interested.
Consider - would a late night extension in The Glasgow really affect anyone in Penybont or Gelli Crug ?
So, a look at the geography of the place and area is called for.
For some reason the meeting was on Weds morning ( I'd have thought site meeting in the morning, meeting in the afternoon but then ).
So, 10:00 Weds and I'm walking through about a dozen or so objectors to the chamber.
The 3 of us ( Chair and another collegaue ) are then given a mass of new material - the applicant's solicitors emailed a wad of new supporting material at 5pm the previous day and the objectors have brought a pile of documents about an inch thick with them.
So - we have to adjourn because we simply can't take in all that background info. and finish the meeting in a reasonable time.
I mentioned to the Chair that bringing along 'new' info. was in effect a of delaying the decision but no-one seemed too perturbed so I await a new date.
Friday saw me training in employment law - well actually dismissal law.
Asc a memebr of the Appeals panel I'll have to decide whether a decision to dismiss someone was acceptable or not, so we have top be trained on how Employment Appeal Tribunals work, and do a few case studies.
Interesting to be honest and there were one or two things I found I didn't
quite have an angle on.
Friday was also the culmination of Blues week.
Been running around trying to give Carys and our Leisure Services Blues people a bit of help in their efforts to make the Blues more welcoming for visitors and goers.
Camping this year - but no transport for the campers into town etc.
So, got that one sorted. A minibus shuttle from 3-7 Friday and 9-3 Sat.
Hopefully the cafes have sold a few more breakfats, the pubs a few more dinners ( and of course beers ).
The Blues Bros act down the Railway on Thursday was really good. I'm not a fan but I was impressed.
Unfortunately didn't get down the fest last night due to other commitments and today might be awkward due to work.
However, the campers seemed happy enough and I've got really positive feedback to share with Carys and the team.
