A GWENT motorist was stunned to receive a £30 fine after being told his licence plates bearing images of a Welsh dragon were illegal.
A policeman in Blackwood handed Chris Sterry, 21, from Abertillery, the penalty notice, ordering him to change the plates on his Fiat Bravo immediately.
Seems to be a bit draconian, but I was once told that it is also against the law for a school, public building or shop to display the Welsh flag alone, it has to be displayed alongside the Union Jack. Many L.A's no longer enforce this but can do if they so wish, by asking you to take it down or by arresting you for the offence. _________________ 'Unqualified Jedi Knight'. I did not hear of anybody getting fined for displaying English stickers and flags during the world cup and there were loads of them round here even Welsh people were supporting England no wonder it takes them ages to get the Aber when there is trouble they are too busy giving out senseless tickets and it took all two of them to do it they always work in pairs. _________________ Mai Duw yn ddarpar y'r brain
It does seem draconian but it is a law relating to licence plates specifically and not displaying flags on your car generally which was the issue here. The only symbol which can be shown I believe is the GB logo.
