Rocke

A less hectic week that was

Only one meeting last week.

Pre-agenda for our Education & Leisue Committee.
Basically we get briefed on who's presenting what at next ( this ) week's meeting.

There was a FIP ( Finance, Improvement & Performance ) committee but I had a meeting with the Leader, exploring any possibilities open to us to help retain a radio station for the area.

I had been approached by a prospective buyer of Valleys, who was keen to make it more community-focussed. I therefore became involved in seeking ways of funding it.
We believed that the way forward would be for the prosepctive buyer to create an independent organisation and apply for funding through Communities First, GAVO, the Silent Valley Trust and other possible sources.
Unfortunately in the event Valleys' owners gave the bands back to OFCOM, so there wasn't anything to save.

However, in late Summer a report's coming out to OFCOM which will enable it to decide what to do with the wavelengths ( 1116 & 999 ) and more importantly FM broadcasting. It is possible that these can be allocated to Community Radio and we live in hope that this area gets its very own station in the not too distant future.

I had to be very, very proactive in a small matter of getting the facilities at Cwmnantygroes field up to the standard required for Welsh league football.
Abertillery Bluebirds are in pole position for wimnning their league and becoming eligible to join the Welsh League - if the ground and facilities are up to it.
Phew - 3 or 4 phone calls a day, every day.
Hopefully when the FAW inspectors turn up Tues afternoon they'll find it all acceptable and we can look forward to Welsh League football returning to Aber.

btw last Thursday was 52 weeks to the day that I got elected.
Friday was my first birthday.
Time for a 'that was the year that was' submission I suppose.

Watch this space.

Cheers.
