Aber Town in general - quick poll of views.

Meeting Exec on Weds on our periodic look at Aber.

Please use this as a way of giving your views on shortcomings and possible improvements.

I'll be printing the entire thread out and presenting it under 'AOB'.
Your chance - take it.

Thanks.

How about the new fenced off area next to the institute becoming a residents/ short stay carpark?
Rocke

Taken on board.

Probably cost money to turn it into one and with funding hopefully coming forward for 'the square' might not be opportune.

However, as stated it will be put forward.

Thanks.

Rocke  With respect there is little point in this thread if there is no money available   Regarding mini rounderbouts  surely just a blob of of white paint in the shape a of a round thing  or am I being naive?     Do not let the Station Hill contractors do it   it would probaly be the wrong colour / shape and be painted on a wall   The lights on the Foundry Bridge are still not working as they should be

I think that area would really look great with a sculpture in. It wouldn't need to be anything terribly expensive ,perhaps local artists could use the area to exhibit their work, with seating areas for the public to view them.

And until people post their ideas no-one will be able to say whether the money's there or not Harry.

And despite me being absolutely convinced that there's nothing other than willpower preventing us having mini-roundabouts and that they will solve a lot of problems, I'm not a highways engineer. I accept that there might be something that an amateur like me wouldn't know regarding highways.
The point here is that if no-one comes up with ideas our professionals can't give a yea or nay.
They'll be forewarned so I expect a reasoned debate on Weds.

You're right about the lights. Pity you didn't make the lack of a bus stop a higher priority.
See - guaranteed that one on their own won't pick up on everything.
The more, the better the chances of everything being covered. Hence this post.

I quite like that idea sunbeam.
Let's see how it's received on Weds.

Thanks.

All the flags blown away on The Station Hill  lights STILL not working as they should on The Foundry ( Gateway to Abertillery ) Bridge   Help The Aged  my granny gets blind drunk in the rolling mill every day now she has to stagger up to The Foundry ( Gateway etc ) Bridge for me to collect her as I can no longer drive up Church Street is this fair on the old biddy ?  I think not !
Manawydan

Church Street is supposed to be pedestrianised.. Get over it... Looking at some of Abers' populous, a good walk wouldn't hurt...

I have often wondered why they dont put a filter arrow on the traffic lights turning into Abertillery coming down from the Blaina direction.
Brithyll

And a filter at the same lights turning left out of Abertillery.

Looking at the tremendous success of the M & S outlet in Ebbw Vale it's a pity we can't attract a similar 'Big Name' to our town to boost local trade.
The Abrogator

Better information on where and when to catch buses.

There's not enough information at the High Street stops, and no shelter or information on the Foundry Bridge stop.

Being looked at jaybe.
I mentioned it in Sept.
I expect to get an answer at the next meeting, perhaps even tomorrow.
(There's an Exec on the plans for Somerset St, opposite the banks and along down from Wetherspoons.  )

Same reply as above to jaybe. Brithyll.
I've counted as many as 16 cars coming into Aber on the Green 'turn right' light.
That means as many as 16 that could come out as well.
That's more than enough to prevent much tailback past the Station Hill junction, which is one of the main reasons why cars back up Station Hill, almost to the top sometimes.

On a related point a min-roundabout would help as well but I gather the road might not be wide enough.
It will be pursued tho'.
Hopefully one successful step at a time.

The lack of a bus shelter is something a few of us councillors are taking very seriously.
I for one am very frustrated that it's been almost 11 months since the Bridge was reopened and as yet absolutley no sign of any preparatory work.
As I wrote in this week's 'wtw' Every time I've asked about it ( from last Feb on ) I've either been assured that it is one the way or been given a reasonable explanation for the delay.
However, there has to be a line drawn somewhere and this is it.
One year is too long but 1 year will be my limit.
I've made my views known to those I'm in partnership with that have responsibility for sorting it.
The Abrogator

Apart the bus situation, my wife and myself quite liked Abertillery when we visited it for the first time last week.  There was friendly service in the shops and the cafe we went into - and people we spoke to in general were friendly and helpful, including the girl who helped us find the bus stop we needed to get our bus back to Llan.

As a non-driver, I quite liked how everything was close together and could be reached on foot.  From what I saw, Abertillery's still got the warm valley community feel that my native Pontypool lost many years ago.

We'll be back.  Cool
normanivor

hi its nice to hear something nice said about our town for a change glad you and your wife injoyed your visit Laughing  Laughing
Rocke

Yes, I agree with that Norman.

It's really frustrating that Aber as bricks and mortar isn't anywhere near as 'user-friendly' as its traders and the people in general.

I don't know if you have a family Abrogator but you'll find Christmas isn't too bad around the place. The Arcade traders always do themselves proud.
Carolyn

First visit to Aber and you only live in Llan!!!! My you have had a sheltered life  Laughing glad you enjoyed you visit tho
