Ashman family.Hello, can anyone give me any information regarding my Grandfather
Arthur Ashman he was born at 23 Cwm Street Abertillery on 7th February 1883.
Who else lived in the house?
Why was he born in Wales when the family originated in Somerset?
I assume they either had family in the area or moved to work in the local Coalmine.
The 1891 Census shows the family back in Radstock.
Please excuse me if any of this seems obvious, being new to Family History i have a lot to learn.
Thanks in anticipation, Henry Jones.

Arthur was born between census, I could find no Ashman families living in Abertillery at the time of the 1881 census although there were a number of Ashman families living in the Monmouthshire area. If you have a record of his birth it should give you his parents names which would help identify where the family was in 1881

Thanks Carolyn, it looks like you have answered my question.
I must assume the family moved to Abertillery to find work, then moved back to Somerset before 1888, i guess i was hoping to find other members of the Ashman family in Abertillery.
I have all the relevent Census and birth/marriage Certs for the family, i was looking to maybe fill the gap between 1881and 1891.
My Ashman family are shown in Somerset in the 1881 Census then again in Somerset in the 1891 Census, although by this time Arthur's father William is dead, killed in accident at Ludlows Colliery Radstock 1888.
Thanks once again, best wishes and good luck with the site, i will certainly visit again. Rgds Henry.
