Indian food

Dont know if you do takeaways, but the indian in my village does a half price on all curries every Wednesday and the place does a roaring trade. I know for a fact that people come from 5/6 miles away.As long as the meal is good these people will come back time and again.

Chillies do take-aways pent boy - they've had a couple of rave reviews elsewhere on this message board. They've also begun running some special offers on Wednesday and Sunday (I think).

The food really is first class, as is the venue and service, so I think mostly it may be down to people not knowing about the place. I've seen a few people there who I recognise as being from out of Aber but I'm not sure how well known it is outside the town.

Obviously the current economic climate hasn't made it any easier to start up a restaurant either.

I don't envy anyone starting a buisness in this area' these are tough times but it's tough times also for the consumer. Gas price rises due of 7%. Do I pay my gas bill or go out for a meal? Norman, I wish you luck and I do not mean this in a bad way but it was your choice to open the business in this area you can't blame people for not coming through your doors. Many businesses have failed see how many pubs have closed who would ever have forseen that? There is no Magic solution if the money is not there.

In fairness Adrian, Norman is simply asking for suggestions on how to improve a local business - he's not blaming anyone. But, as you say, times are hard.

Hello Huw As I said there is no magic solution even lowering his prices may not help, and he may be on his lowest margin now.
Brithyll

As I've probably said before I have a take away most Saturday nights but rarely eat in the restaurant for some reason. The food is excellent, as are the prices and service, but as has been said before times are hard and the future isn't looking brighter.
Christmas should bring more business so hang in ther until the new year.
Personally I hope you survive for purely selfish reasons. I don't want the long treck to Brynmawr every weekend for my favourite food. Sad

ps I'll be in the restaurant on Monday night with neighbours celebrating their sons birthday so keep the nan breads sizzling. Smile

I think we will be trying the Boxing Day event. As you said, hopefully the Christmas period will kick-start things.

Okay, okay - Chillies were dealt an unfair hand by David's comment but since, have got rave reviews, comments etc from us all. If it doesn't work out, then to the credit of the people who have posted here, its not for want of support, publicity or good-will.

There are other other places in the area that are also finding it it hard ... oh go on then, I'll have a Cobra ...
martyn142

There are several decent places in the town but the only other one which I use and which I'd give top marks to is the Coffee Bean. Just my opinion, of course
David

And what are you doing for curry week norman? http://www.cobrabeer.com/nationalcurryweek/

One suggestion Noman - and I'm amazed you haven't done this - is get a delivery person.

Ruth and I don't have Indians that regularly now ( despite my waistline ) but almost always we had them delivered ( usually 'cos I was too inebriated to walk from The Mersh ). On the occasions we've dined at Chillies there's been a lot of takeaways going out that door.

But not everyone has cars, or have had a few and won't drive.

Off at a tangent, Martyn142 mentioned the Coffee Bean. I want to like it. It should be warm, a bit steamy & smell of well, Coffee! The guy should be harassing me every few minutes asking is everything to my liking. I do not like when I witness the " Chef " bring from the freezer frozen portions of meat wrapped in clingfilm, I could do this at home! I want to believe they rear and slaughter their own beasts. Here is the thing, with eating & drinking it's not usually hygenic, but what you don't see with luck, won't hurt you! Create an illusion!
Shawana

The restaurant is really far from our place. So Saturday is my only free day to try that restaurant. I am happy that they now entertain delivery service.
