Cllr Daniels Resignation PollCOUNCILLOR Nigel Daniels has been suspended for nine months by a tribunal panel who found him guilty of intimidation and inappropriate behaviour.
This leaves the people of Abertillery with only two Borough Councillors to represent them as there is no mechanism to appoint a “caretaker” to take over his responsibilities.

Can I point out that in the interests of fairness and to ensure that this poll is truly representative only people registered to vote in Abertillery Ward should participate ?

It will never be representative because we won't know who s representative of his ward on this forum and some will delete their cookies and vote again.. but fun anyway just take it with a pinch of salt viewers
Personally I think he is not the only one of the labour group guilty of intimidation and inappropriate behavour,I could name a few from my own observations One especially has an equally similar reputation so I am told. Cllr Daniels has been made the scapegoat no doubt to set an example to the rest, maybe they should all have a little more respect

Well that proves 'hedleymccarthy' isn't Cllr. Hedley McCarthy, Leader of the Labour Group.
He would know if any of his charges dealt with people inappropriately surely ?
Oh, er... I'm not sure.
Labour suspended Cllr. Daniels after a complaint was made, not off their own backs.
Anyway, there are different rules for Officers and Members.
You should see how some of our Chairs of Committee ( and Executive Members ) are treated ! (NOT by Officers ).

Your mate Brian Scully maybe? I'm kidding obviously - Scully would never seek to bully or intimidate of course.

I don't suppose anyone ever thought that there could be the remotest connection with Nigel's suspension in September 2007 and John Hopkins' resigning as Leader of the Council six weeks later?

Cause and effect, but that is not the whole story.
Cllr Hopkins didn’t resign due to Cllr Daniels suspension as such.
He resigned due to a threatened challenge to his leadership.
The challenge happened because Cllr Daniels’s removal from the picture caused a power vacuum within the labour group.
The power vacuum would have occurred whatever the cause of Cllr Daniels’s absence – suspension, resignation or death.
Does this mean Cllr Daniels’s behavior caused the resignation?
It's hard to really illustrate the workings of political groups without Ishikawa diagrams.
On a point of protocol, should Cllr Daniels be referred to as Mr Daniels for the next nine months?

Nine votes.. Nine days a Queen, well months almost..... a patsy for an inevitable sinking ship I give you your leader. Few things in life are as enjoyable as watching newly enlightened people call a spade a spade.
What I do often contemplate, however, is how anyone—you or I or a martian just arrived in a flying saucer—who wants to pursue virtue and knowledge should realize that by allowing Hedley to redefine his success and obscure failure we are selling our souls for dross.
You won't find many of his expositors who will openly admit that they favour Hedley's schemes to use terms of opprobrium such as "otiose loathsome-types" and "harebrained sandbaggers" to castigate whomever he opposes. In fact, their rantings are characterized by a plethora of rhetoric to the contrary.
First, Hedley should clean up his act. Second, Hedley's speeches leave the impression of an army of pompous phrases moving over the landscape in search of an idea. And third, now that I've been exposed to Hedley's press releases I must admit that I don't completely understand them. Perhaps I need to get out more. Or perhaps Hedley sometimes uses the word "anarchoindividualist" when describing his histrionics. Beware! This is a buzzword designed for emotional response. Anyway, I hope I've made my point, which is that Cllr Hedley McCarthy utilizes a narrow and static view of human nature.

Is Cllr Hedley McCarthy really Cllr McCarthy? Some times I doubt it but at other times if one is so intellectually challenged I can believe it

A trade mark of Nu Labour
Blasphemy was of no concern
The last they were in favour
A small town church, it's congregation
for a hustling they did gather
I watched as they circled round
a pack of wolves in a lather
A peaceful meeting, was enjoyed by all
The congregation each candidate applauded
As each in turn on the sound of a bell
Their policies they unfolded
Then came the last, once of the Labour fold
No longer highly regarded
He spoke his peace but was not heard
As a foul disruption thus enfolded
No thought was given to those within
That peaceful church that evening
Insults were hurled, the air was blue
They stood united in their bullying
Behaviour like you've never known
Inside Gods house exploded.
Indignity and shame were theirs
The disprespectful red rosetted
No better than the local so called yobs
They blame for many misdemeanours.
Were they served with ASBO'S on the spot
No, not those blasphemous lot.

Ah it's livened up a bit hasn't it ?!!!!
Dai 6 is pretty close to the mark but hasn't exactly hit the nail on the hed ( sic). There was a power vacuum. It was caused by Nigel Daniels' suspension from Labour. In fact it was also, of course by Labour.
The 'coincidence' is that within 6 weeks someone within The Party/Group decided that it was time to effect a change.
A classic old-fashioned putsch, that's what it was.
The thing about it now is that following May Day Meltdown the Leader of the Labour Group's flock has diminished somewhat. That now makes this week's AGM interesting. Will there be a new Leader or do they just shuffle along in disarray.
I wish I was a disinterested ( that means 'unbiased', 'impartial', Cllr. McCarthy. I think the word you were looking for when you derided Cllr. Hopkins in trying to laugh off his resignation was 'uninterested'. ) journalist giving marks out of 10 as they do in the Sports Pages.

Well that just about shows how much in disarray the LABOUR PARTY are.
Now whoever this activist is has shown they have been taken in by Mr. Dobbs and his rantings.
I do hope The Gazette has published my riposte.
If not we'll have it on here in the next week or so.
Anyway, I was at our 'AGM' tonight and I can say that I'm now convinced that evolution has put your teeth in the wrong orifice.
It's clear what the latest strategy is isn't it ?
Hopefully the people - sorry electorate, that's what your party look upon us as isn't it, mere voter fodder - will see through not only that but every shabbily-run campaign over the next 3 years.
District and Area HQs will be able to gloss over the next meltdown, simply claiming that its share of Blaenau Gwent's vote was maintained, it was the other areas that led to disaster at the EU elections.
Then the truth will hit Special Agent Smith.
I wonder what his excuse will be by this time next year ?
Then the worst dilemma of all - does the Labour Party select a local person for AM candidature and they get trounced or stick with HQ's preferred candidate, who gets absolutely slaughtered ( as sheep almost always end up ).
I know the strategy that they could try - get HQ to impose an all-woman shortlist and then have a local mutiny and select a local man.
Bet he'd get more votes than most.
Oops - a slight flaw, the only local man is the highly popular and well-performing Leader of the Labour group.
Anyway, back on track ( if only the LABOUR PARTY had had the nous to realise that our line was on the backburner - no, wasn't even in the pot yet ), I can tell you that I'm still happy to work with the members of The Partnership. I see and hear them and they are people people.
If only the LABOUR GROUP was run the same. In fact I'm glad it's not. It would be difficult to know which way to vote with good ideas coming from everywhere.

To strech the simile (and do little light stirring)
If the rats are fighting, perhaps it’s due to overcrowding. In this case one has to ask what sinking ship they are coming from.

The Gazette makes good reading this week.
Cllr. Hedley McCarthy a warm-up act for a REAL writer.
Yet another attack sheep savaged by The Rockeweiller.
Think I'm ready to step out of the local leagues.
Bring on Special Agent Smith ( unless of course he wants peace in his time and acknowledges the error of his unwarranted attack and pre-emptive strike on how Delwyn, Mark and I represent Cwmtillery and its citizens ).
I think he knows what's required, given his statement to The Gazette a few months back.

Agent Smith is worried.
He's trying to persuade us that he's guarded by Ghurkas in last week's Gazette.
Pity I missed him last Saturday. I've got something of his to return to him.

The agenda and reports for this meeting are not yet on the council’s website
http://www.blaenau-gwent.gov.uk/councilagendas/CouncilAgendas.asp
Nor is the minutes for the meetings on 29th June or 9th July.
I’m going to wait until after the Standards report is officially discussed before I make any further comments on Mr Daniels.
Some people can’t believe he got away with a suspension, while some think this was harsh. I hope the standards report will be more concise than the Ombudsman’s report so it will be easier for people to read about the complaint made and, more importantly, the history behind it.
I’m firmly in the “can’t believe he got away with it” camp.
But all is not lost – whispers from the civic centre report that Mr Daniels is preparing to take part in the 2012 Olympics – the highjump!

I only received my Notice yesterday ( Tues ) and the full agenda Weds.
There's been a few IT gremlins the past couple of days I gather so that might be a reason for the non-publishing on the website.
In view of the interest in this I'll enquire if the agenda's not up by Friday.
