Community Council - Town Clerk

Well I'm not exactly happy to do this, because if people have qualms about something either: a) say it; or b) make a complaint and see what happens as a result.

However, I can understand why people are reluctant to put their heads above the parapet, so:

Question 1 - why has the position of Clerk to Abertillery & Llanhilleth Community Council become vacant?

Q2 - did he resign or was he pushed?

Q3 - is a candidate for the position related to any current member of A&Ll CC? and if so;
Are they related to member who has been co-opted?, and if so;
Is it one whose co-option is about to be the subject of an investigation into the manner of their co-option? , and if so;
Is it a member who has formerly held the position of Leader of A&Ll CC?

Answers on a postcard please (doesn't take that much space to write 'yes' or 'no').

Now that's what I think is a tidy summing up of all that's been said to me tonight.

Hi Rocke.    You are a little late on this one sorry.   Its all been discussed and brought into the open via Speakeasy on fb

The answers are:
q1 - because the current clerk is resigning
q2 - don't know
q3 - no such candidate applied when the job was first advertised and is very unlikely to apply now it's been readvertised. You can draw your own conclusioons about whether they might have had it not been put under such close scrutiny already (see kd's comment).

Good ad for Speakeasy Kev  Very Happy

And NO.
I refuse to use social network media, just like I refuse to watch Jeremy Kyle.

Anyway, since Speakeasy seems to have exclusives here's one from AOL er...... perhaps not.

Um... here's one from A.Net (that's better).

The resignation might have something to do with a potential conflict of interest which I understand is about to be questioned *.
It seems that a lot of people are asking a lot of questions (and a lot of them seem to be asking me).

I'm not going to divulge conversations etc. but there is the possibility of sufficient question marks over the running and governance of the town council, and the things it's been up to, that staff of the WAO might become involved.

Now, does Speakeasy know anything about the (aborted) plans to move the War Memorial????????

* Note, this is not an allegation or insinuation of wrongdoing. It relates to standard practice under the Code of Conduct that councillors are expected to adhere to.

Yes that's been brought into the public domain to Dave.   You might be surprised how much the 500 members of the group now about what's going on and the influence it is beginning to have on the councils morals

Temptation, temptation  Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad  Very Happy

What I would like to know is does anyone know if the town council ever discussed it?
Has it appeared in any Minutes and if so which ones?

Not to worry, I'll ask my councillors.   Very Happy

Back on topic, there is one aspect of this matter of the town clerk vacancy that no-one's probably thought of (unless SE's already discussed it  Smile ).

Nepotism gives everyone a bad name, even innocent parties.

I remember an issue in - you've guessed, BG council - some years back where the son of a councillor was appointed to a professional trainee position, one which entailed attending a sandwhich course I think, leading to a professionally-recognised qualification.

He got enrolled and it was subsequently discovered that he did not have the required educational qualifications to do the course.

Rumour was rife that he had been handed the job above other candidates because of the name, and I also understand that staff within the council weren't happy with the original decision, let alone when it was discovered that he wasn't even qualified to put in for the post.

As far as I know, the person concerned was totally innocent of any oiling of paths etc. - as innocent as you can be when you apply for a job on the same council that your dad has an influence in running I suppose - but of course it makes things very difficult.

The same thing is quite possibly happening here.

Now, is anyone running a book on who the next co-opted member of the town council will be, and is the current town clerk the favourite?
