Developers for steel site shortlisted | Quote: | FIVE developers are shortlisted to begin work on the massive £150 million regeneration of the former Ebbw Vale steelworks site.
The five private sector firms were selected after more than 40 developers and investors from around the UK came to see the potential of the 200-acre site first hand earlier this year.
The final five are Bellway, Edward Ware Homes, George Wimpey, Taylor Wimpey/Bryant Homes, and United Welsh Housing Association, with a bid from Charles Church in reserve.

Almost every housing developer would be interested in this site, as they would any proposed site for housing as they can not lose out financially due to the massive profits to be made from timber framed houses being put up so cheaply and quickly, and the demand still for housing, Although I and many others would love to see the Council and Welsh assembly do a lot more to encourage employment and better jobs for Blaenau Gwent people, it is all right the council throwing development sites at developers who promise a few hundred thousand pound as a sweetner to the council/community(cost of selling just 1or2 house's to them) but if not carefull everyone will have an house but no job to pay for it. Also remember that the steel works used to pay over a £million/annum into the council in rates and at least supplied many hundred well paid jobs.
