Doggie Bins - Bit of Info.

At Env & Public Protection today it was reported that the Council has started a trial whereby there's a dedicated dog litter bin monitor.

This person will do the rounds over the whole Borough every week, emptying and disinfecting bins as necessary. Over the coming months we'll be able to build up a picture of where use ( and hence need ) is greatest and hopefully tweak the rounds in order to avoid the scenarios we've seen and heard of these past weeks and months.

The measurable target as I see it will be how many calls we have regarding overflowing bins in, say, 3 months time.

This is a good example of everyone doing their part:

1) the public bringing it to Members' ( and Council's ) attention ;
2) Members bringing it up at committee; and ( mainly )
3) Officers monitoring the number and type of calls and picking up the fact that overflowing bins have replaced dog fouling as one of the most-made complaints in recent times.

Since you yourselves are the greatest number of eyes and ears we have please let us know if you have an over-full bin, so we can address the issue.

My - and I'm sure everyone's - target is to be receiving absolutely no calls about overflowing bins this time next year, proving that our proactivity is bearing fruit.

Thanks.

Good news.

My sister-in-law the doggie bin man earlier this week when she was putting my dogs dirt in one of the bins (lucky me having a walker available when in work!). He was very helpful and explained that poop bag are available free form 'dog solutions'. Gave her a couple of bags with the phone number on.

I personally dont mind buying them but theres really no excuse for not picking up dog mess if they just cost the price of a phone call.

Doggie Bins- bit of info

Rocke,

The 'dog bin monitor 'is an excellent idea and I am delighted that the LA are listening to their residents.

However, I have some good and bad news for you to pass on to him/her.

The good news is that someone has kindly cleared all the dog litter from the bins around the lower lake in Cwmtillery.

The bad news is that this "kind" person has also removed the bins.  Yes, that's right.  3 bins have completely disappeared from the lower lake overnight, taken off their posts and gone without a trace!

Seems that we need a minder and not a monitor.

Who would want to steal a bin, they're only metal things.  Ah!  Yes, of course, nice bit of scrap there, eh? Say no more, nudge, nudge, etc.

Delwyn's reported it to the police.

I've checked with Env Services and since no-one's sure if it's actually been reported to us someone will be up,there by Monday at the latest ( hoping someone could have got up today and at least put one replacement bin up there ) and get the bins replaced.

I'll be up Monday afternoon having a scout around.
