Eason/Morgan connectionsI recently re ignited my interest in the family tree and joined genes reunited. I thought I had exhausted my search years ago going back 3 generations on all but my maternal grandmothers side. She died before I was born and I had no dates or relatives for her. Then, by chance, I joined the Forest of Dean History Society and through the forum discovered her family for 4 generations! In fact one of the moderators turned out to be a cousin!!
The Eason side of my family originated in Somerset, a small mining village called Bishops Sutton in the Chew Valley. In my research I was surprised how many Somerset miners 'emigrated' to Wales when the coal in Somerset petered out.
My father Jack Eason worked for the Red & White for 35 years until voluntary retirement in the late 60's and he took over the Rolling Mill Inn in Church Street. He also worked for Ralphs before the R&W. Does anyone remember the Xmas parties hosted by Ralphs. They were usually held in the Ralphs Welfare Club opposite the end of Carlyle Street. I believe this area has been totally transformed since those days!
While researching my mums side of the family I discovered a connection regarding my grancha, Nobby. However the link is now a bit tenuous. I had him descended from a William Ford of Brynmawr, who was a Round abouts (merry-go-round) proprietor/Hawker but I got my grans wedding certificate and it says his father was a TAILOR? Perhaps being a Hawker sounded less respectable!
If anyone can help with this mystery I would be grateful.
