|WITH eight tourism hotspots making the grade, councillors tested the best of Blaenau Gwent.
The Valleys Top 50 Essentials list may have crowned Ebbw Valeís Sidoliís ice cream parlour as king, but a magnificent seven other attractions got into the list of the regionís places to visit.
Wales Tourism Week saw councillors Mike Bartlett, Shirley Ford, Graham Hughes, Bernard Willis and Anita Hobbs hunt out the reasons why Blaenau Gwent generates £30m in yearly tourism.
Coun Jason Owen, Blaenau Gwent Councilís executive member for leisure said: ďThrough events like this we can appreciate the input that tourism has to the local and national economy. This contribution comes from many sectors, from transport to accommodation and attractions to pubs, restaurants and cafes. Unlike much of our economy, they cannot be exported overseas and remain rooted in our communities.Ē
