Family History Group meetings

Hi, I am planning to visit Abertillery during May or June and wonder if there are any Tuesdays when this group does not meet so that I can avoid those dates as I would like to attend a meeting and maybe get some info about my family by the name of Webb, who lived in Duke Street and New Princess Street, Abertillery and Alexandra Road, Six Bells between 1902 and 1922.  Thank you for any help you can provide.

Thank you Carolyn.  I live in Bath and our school summer holidays are from mid July to end of August.  Do your schools have the same holiday times?  If so, I understand that the group meets during May and June. Is that correct?
Helen

Yes that is correct I think our schools break up at the same time

WEBB family in Abertillery

Thank you Cowpat for your message.  Yes Isaac and Jane were my grandparents and Idris was my Dad.  Isaac was secretary of the South Wales Miners Federation in Abertillery - I have some headed paper with these details on.  Do you know if any records exist for the SWMF?

WEBB family in Abertrillery

Thank you Lyndon for your info.  Isaac had a son in June 1906 who died in September 1906 and I have been trying to find out where the baby was buried.  Do you know if the Blaenau Gwent Baptist church holds the records or should I look elsewhere to see if the grave you mentioned was for this baby?

Hi Helen

Just doubled checked and I must apologise for an incorrect date given.

The grave was purchased 10th September 1906 and not 21st June 1920 as in my previous post, this must be the grave you are looking for.

As you may already know the cemetery has been cleared of all dangerous headstones.

I have checked the available Monumental Inscriptions but unfortunately there are none for Webb.

GROUP MEETINGS

Hi HELEN.

THERE MAY BE RECORDS FOR S W M F MAY BE HELD AT THE WORKS AT EBBW VALE.

MAY ISAAC HAVE BEEN MARRIED TWICE?.
IS IT THE GRAVE OF MAURICE STANLEY WEBB JUNE 1906/SEPT 1906?

Hi Cowpat

Thank you for your info.  You are right in thinking that Isaac was married twice, first to Ellen Gertrude Cinderby in 1902  who gave birth to Ivy in 1904 and died giving birth to twins in 1906.  One baby was stillborn and I have no idea where this one is buried or whether or not it was actually named.  The other baby Maurice Stanley, lived for three months and I believe it is his grave that Lyndon has identified for me at Blaenau Gwent Baptist Church.  Isaac married again in 1908 to my grandmother Jane Best.

I will contact the Works at Ebbw Vale to see if they have any info on the SWMF.

Thank you again for your help.
