Forum MannersI have only joined your forum to voice my displeasure at the animosity shown to a few of your members by a certain "group" of people. I have been involved in several simular forums throught the world, yet I have never ever encountered such nastiness as on yours. Adrian Monk kick started your forum and added mischief, The Inspector is forthright and knowledgeable and Dirty Harry is in the vein of Adrian Monk without the agression. Look back only a few pages to see the lack of response to most of the "groups" topics, I find a quote from the local newspaper an easy way of posting a topic without personal input. I intend this to be my one and only posting as I do not wish to play insult Ping-Pong.

Hello Elizabeth and welcome. I have to correct you on one point though - the forum was in existence and thriving some years before Adrian Monk joined and 'kickstarted' it as you put it.
It would be nice to hear from you again.

In reply to the point Elizabeth Stuart made about the Inspector.
As he/she has made only three posts and the very first one starting by criticizing people on the forum for daring to have an opinion, and going on to further insult people by saying they have a"ValleysMentality".and that they snipe from the sidelines.
He/she may be knowledgeable, but that doesn't put his views above ours.
You felt strongly enough to join and to post your comments that is your right, and i for one am glad you did.
Newspaper articles alone will not keep this forum alive.
I will take this opportunity to apologize to the Inspector for my own personal comments, but if he reads his own posts again I think he also owes an apology to this forum for his remarks.

Fine Harry.
I was more being mischievious, since your 'signature' doesn't match that of The Inspector.
Anyway, hopefully we both agree that Philby was a spy.........

Mmmm, interesting.
Joined er... today, yet seems to have had a far longer acquaintance with this site.
I think Harry's being led up the garden path regarding the number of 'new' members on here.
New pseudonyms perhaps.
Be interesting to see the views and threads coming along in the next few months.
btw - what's happened to 'tchambuli9' and 'hedleymccarthy' ?
Seems we're almost in a population decline rather than the apparent upsurge that Harry mentioned.

Not really, just someone who knows www.google.com, or where their Google Toolbar is.
Anyway, 'an ex-Aber person living in another part of the world'.
Sincerely, good on you. It's nice to see that this town and its facilities have given many people the means to go out into the wider world and make something of themselves.
I'd never have known how great East Anglia and its people are if I hadn't have got some 'O' Levels due to my schooling here and a good grounding from various employers around here.
I'd never have been paid to go to Jamaica, the Netherlands, the Lake District and got the money to show those places - and many other places abroad - to my family, if it wasn't for the initial schooling The Crown gave me, built on by Cock 'n' Chick, then the Grammar and Comp.
And I and the family would never have come back here, if it wasn't for the community spirit that exists, a spirit that stands head and shoulders above anything I've seen elsewhere.
And of course to try to give back just an iota of what this area gave me.
And most of the arguing, discussion and whatever jars you off on here are simply manifestations of that same desire from the members here to try to give something, to get something, so that when we're lucky enough to see more of our young make their way with what we've armed them with that perhaps, just perhaps, we'll see one or two of them back here one day, having been good ambassadors of what sort of people we are in this part of the world.
As a community we look down on no-one and anyone looking down on us is flying perilously high, such is our stature.
Perhaps you'd like to Google 'hwyl'.

This forum has been hijacked with people that have some axe to grind and has done for almost a year. Many of the old members are fed up with it. There is no problem with the politians as long as they keep their political information/ council meeting updates and strictly political discussion and debate to their own section and to be fair most have done so. Naturally some element of political debate will be filter through the discussion section because of the nature of the issues being discussed.
Adrain Monk did very little for this forum a number of his posts were nonsensical and shared only with Ian Boco Jones. Then he created mischief by ridiculing the Aberfest, criticising the posting of photos and the people who organised and attended some of the events and in particular the efforts of the British Lions. They are a charity organisation who do a great deal of good work, to have a go at their efforts is very bad manners whether you agree with them or not. Then because people did not share his views (As he had expected) he had a hissy fit and edited out all his posts leaving his name in large print wasting the time of admin who spent ours deleting them.
Having opposing points of view to many of the issues is fine, nobody expects everyone to share the same viewpoint. Debate may well get a little heated on times but as long as it remains civil then it is okay but pointless criticism of the many charity and voluntary organisations that serve this town is totally unsavoury

Top tip compose your message in an e mail and copy and paste it into the forum. Sometimes a necessity for me since I have low vision and my e mail font set to 14, it helps to see what you are writing
Saves the effort of enlarging the font on the forum and then correcting it. I don't always bother but do if and when I have the time or inclination or if my sight is particularly strained. May well count for the discrepancies one member rudely reported in my postings

Arthur K Denning ! Aber's own Mr. Chips.
Thought a lot of him.
He apologised to me once for not asking me to read a Lesson at the Christmas Service, explaining that he somehow had a note in his diary stating I wasn't available.
How many teachers would take time out to do that ?

I had to give up English Lit.
Having scraped an 8, then managing a 9 in the resit I didn't think it fair for him to have to have me as a miserable failure.
As I said when he asked what had happened in Literature, 'it's not written in proper English Sir !'
