foundry bridge

Heard today all work as stopped on the foundry bridge, does anyone know whats happening?
Carolyn

Talking to some of the contractors working under the bridge doing repairs when the aircraft hanger was being built, they had seen rats the size of cats down under there.  We have had a number of rats around our area since work has been started so maybe that is holding up the work, or they haven't been paid

Then for the development to proceed, special protection must be provided for the slow-worms. This is termed mitigation, and specialist licensed ecological consultants such as JPR Environmental provide its strategies. Mitigation normally takes the form of improving or creating habitat within the development site or translocating slow-worms to another suitable site.
Let’s hope not and that it’s fast rats instead.

Quite right

Perhaps the rats have eaten all the slow-worms?  Shocked

Making Hedgehog and Sloworm sanctuaries

Quote:
Anyone who keeps a compost heap is well aware that this warm dark place not only serves as fermentation bed for producing rich black organic compost but it provides a welcome shelter and  a handy incubated hideaway for Hedgehogs, sloworms, grass snakes, field mice and a host of other garden creatures.
You will also be aware that if the compost heap does become an occupied space then utilising the compost, if you have a conscience becomes almost impossible.

The best solution is to set a side a small area - at the back of a shrub border is best - to tip all of your spare grass clippings, leaves and weeds so that the sloworms and hedgehogs can hideaway here without the fear of being disturbed.

You might also want to lay a piece of old board or carpet in a corner set on four housebricks so that toads can get underneath. That way the toads can then be able to live and breed while they hop around the garden and eat the slugs and snails.

If you are handy with a saw and a hammer then you might want to construct this more extensive Hedgehog detached house.

We moved out of our house some while ago to give it over to our garden friends. We now live in the compost heap which is surprisingly warm at this time of year.  Very Happy

seems to have gone off the point a bit with my original question here have'nt we?
Carolyn

Yes I am afraid we have but since nobody has contributed a factual explantion and as work has since started again.  We can only surmise what the difficulties are and amuse ourselves with possbible senarios Laughing

I see they have a huge crane in the middle of the foundry bridge which I assume must weigh a little above  the weight of the buses and lorries  that they stopped using the bridge a few years back.
Carolyn

Maybe that is what caused the hold up as son as they realised the bridge would not take the weight of the crane and they were all busy underneath putting in supports
jaybe

Why didnt they just do that in the first place [ put supports under the bridge] and save themselves a lot of money.

Foundry Bridge

It has been suggested that had the Foundry Valley been land-filled, then a bridge would not have been necessary. Had this not been done north of the bridge, we'd have no Comprehensive School  Question
Doodlebug

exactly I dont think we needed all that money being spent on a new bridge couldn't there have been a way to fill the land in it could have been landscaped and used for some where nice to sit and for the kids to play like a village green in the centre of town or small bit of parkland.  There is enough ugly buildings as it is what is wrong with some space

'What a headache'

What a headache travelling to and from work...... can't even get out of Abertillery!! with the foundry bridge closed and now station hill out of action and the traffic lights behind the arcade ( what's all that about?) sorry.. feeling a bit grumpy today but I get confused ( or is it just a 'senior moment') as to which way I have to travel to get to work!!! I think I'll go to bed and wake up in the Autumn. Confused  Confused Someone please let me know when the roads are back to normal.

You`re confused?!?!  Confused  I think the diverted traffic is supposed to go DOWN High St, hence the traffic lights, but there are no signs telling you this so nobody`s doing it, but everyone`s faithfully waiting at the red lights. At the exit to the car park there is a sign saying traffic is signal controlled but misses out the bit about watching for cars coming the wrong way down the one-way system. Expect to hear the sound of crunching metal soon Crying or Very sad On another note that big crane`s causing quite a stir.
Ian

I was also wondering why they need lights on a one way system Exclamation. With all the diversions and the large works traffic about the place it's really difficult at busy times to just get from one side of town to the other.  Rolling Eyes
mrh35

Where does the traffic go that is supposed to go down high st?
as all traffic at lights is in the way any how...... Confused

Although a big lorry nearly crunched me when i came out of the multi story and he was going downwards....
how was i to know the lights at bus station were red Confused  Confused
Morris Minor

I was stuck in three lanes in High Street earlier today with busses pulled in at the bus station.  Absolute chaos going to be an accident soon.

No signs it is an abysmal state of affairs people can't get in or out of Abertillery.  No access at Alma Street is causing a headache all round.  The footpath is disgusting with the smell of urine and vomit, enough to turn your stomache having to walk over it on the occasions I have had to cross on foot.
mrh35

i was stuck in outside lane when i bus waved me through and a taxi came straight at me in the other direction.
get in the bookies and get a bet on when the first accident
