COUNCILLOR Des Hillman has called for the people of Blaenau Gwent to “give them a chance” as he announces plans for a new ‘Partnership Group’ to take over the running of the council.
Following the local elections the Independents, Lib Dems, People’s Voice and ‘no party’ councillors sat down and formed an alliance which is expected to come into power at the council’s Annual General Meeting on May 22. To run the authority a minimum of 22 councillors are required.
This means the Labour group are set to be in opposition for the first time in years.
Coun Hillman will be put forward as leader of the group and Councillor John Mason as deputy leader.
“I don’t like the word coalition, so we’re calling it a ‘partnership group,” says Coun Hillman.
