Glascoed munitions factory

Does anyone have any information or photographs of the Glascoed munitions factory near Usk?  My Grandmother worked there during the 2nd World War so I have a partilcular interest in anything regarding the factory.

Thank you

Hi Glen

It's Martyn here - Sue's cousin. Hope you are both well. I was sorry to hear about Maureen. How is Phil doing these days? It must be 30 years since I saw him last.

My mother Gwyneth Thomas worked at Glascoed, probably during the early years of the war although it might have been slightly earlier. We are putting together a short life history for her. She is in a care home now unfortunately and unable to contribute anything herself. Are you able to unearth any details at all?

I did get some details of the time she spent as a nanny in London in the pre-war years. She worked for the owners of the Fitzroy Tavern which had a pretty famous clientele, including Dylan Thomas, Jacob Epstein, Augustus John and even Aleister Crowley. Must have been a pretty interesting place to be! I've been in touch with the little girl (now a bit bigger!) who she looked after and she has sent some photos which was nice.

Nice to see your name again. Give my love to Sue - and Phil if you are in touch.

Hi Glen, well basically any information on my grandmother or her sisters who worked there would be great.  My grandmothers name was Sarah Ann Gravenor (nee Edwards) but I think they called her Sadie and she unfortunately died young in approx 1948.  Her sisters names were Eunice Meredith and I think Gwen Holloway (nee Edwards).  They all lived in Abertillery.  Please let me know if you need any more details that would help.

Thank you so much for any help.

My grandmother (Maida Glasenbury nee Lewis) supposedly worked in a munitions factory during WW2, but I have no idea which one unfortunately.  She lived in Abertillery (but also moved to Cardiff at some point during the War) - does this narrow down which factory it would have been please?
There was some talk of the factory being bombed (or perhaps an explosion) which supposedly meant she stopped work there but I'm not sure if this was correct.
Any help would be very appreciated please - thank you.

Glascoed Munitions Factory

I have found a Mrs Maida Glasenbury in the ROF Glascoed archive. She was employed there from 26/11/1941 until 30/05/1942. I have  a date of birth as 13th March 1909 and an address as 128 Richmond Road Six Bells.

The stories of the factory being bombed are correct. This occurred twice in 1940. I hope this information is of help.

munitions factory

This is my first time posting here.  I was interested to read about the thread of the Munitions factory.  My mother worked in a munitions factory during WW2, and she was from Abertillery.  I dont know which one,   I am her carer now, and she has Parkinsons Disease and wouldnt remember which one.  Her name was Catherine (Kitty) Hughes nee CHURCHILL.  It would be interessting to find out more if anyone knows anything.
