Google Earth

I've just been looking on Google Earth at Abertillery .If you've got Google Earth can anyone tell me what the large marks I saw on top of the mountain are.If you look at Cwmtillery reservoir and go directly to the right ,before you come to Forge Side you'll see large marks which don't look natural.I'm not suggesting they're anything like crop circles, just wondering what made them. Laughing Thanks
Ian

Asked the same question on the Cwmtillery forum some time ago, didn't really get a definitive answer.Hope some one comes up with one this time.

If you're talking about the relatively straight but haphazard lines I think they are landscaping of some sort.
If I remember rightly ( it's been about 2 years since I was last walking up there ) when up on the top you come to a point where there's some wierd-looking strips for want of a better expression.

I assumed that it might be some sort of action to prevent erosion. It certainly looks stark when you stand there looking down at it.

If anyone wants to see it for real then the best route would be up the tractor track by the farm's Dutch barn onto the top, where you meet the service track/road. Look down over the valley that's almost straight ahead of you and you'll see what I mean. It's not a long nor too demanding walk up there ( easy 10 mins from the barn ).
If you fancy a walk with really good views of both Aber and the coast then head south and take your pick where you come down - onto Church Lane, Hillcrest, Gelli Crug, Heolgerrig, Cwm Farm Lane, Cwmnantygroes, Bottom of Six Bells or even Brynithel !

Thanks for replying Ian and Rocke.I've just looked at the Grid Reference for some of what I'm talking about :-
51degrees 45' 31.84"   3degrees 06' 18.04"W  Elevation 532m.

I have walked up that way quite a lot but can't say I've ever noticed any marks on the ground. You're right about the views Rocke, fantastic,on a clear day you can see the Brecon Beacons in one direction and as you said the River Severn in the other.I've often thought we don't know how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful area.
