Greenland and Wayne familiesHi, I am a South African looking for any information about the Greenland family who supposedly lived in York St, Abertillery. My late grandmother was Mary Ellen Greenland who married Henry James Wayne. She emigrated to South Africa between 1920 and 1930 bringing 2 children with her - my father , Thomas James Wayne and my aunt Enid Wayne. Does anyone have any information?

Info for you on J H WayneHi Di
I tracked down a ship's manifest for the Balmoral Castle (Captain W F Stanley, in the employ of Union Castle Mail S S Co LTD, at the helm), which departed Southampton port on 18 December 1926 for Cape Town South Africa.
James Henry Wayne's occupation is listed as a Winding Engineer for the Penybont colliery in Abertillery. His age is listed as 39 years, and that of his wife Mary Ellen is listed as 37 years. They were accompanied by a daughter Enid (12 years old) and your dad (my granddad ) who was 3 years old at the time.
Other UK bmd records for the time suggest that Mary Ellen's maiden name was Macmara and not Greenland - but I cannot confirm that yet.
Resdential address in Abertillery is listed as 5 Greenmeadow Terrace, Penybont Road, Abertillery - here's a challenge for any residents of Abertillery (or anyone passing through): Greenmeadow Terrace still exists - who can supply me with a photo of the terrace? (from ground level - no Google Maps please)
Email it to rugrats(at)telkomsa(dot)net

Thanks to M J Don for a lovely pic of Greenmeadow Terrace (number 1, if I'm not mistaken)!
Any other pics of the nearby area on offer?
