|AFTER Derek Brockway made his mark on the highways and byways of Blaenau Gwent, it’s now your chance to do the same.
This year's Wales Valleys Walking Festival offers you the chance to find the elusive Chartists Cave, Garn Fawr and Duke's Table.
n The walk to Chartists cave and other historical sites around Trefil takes place on Thursday September 15 leaving Top House (Tafarn Ty Uchaf) at 10am. The six mile walk should take five hours exploring heritage along the way.
n The other Chartist walk leaves the Gwesty Bach, Brynmawr, at 10am on Sunday September 18 following in the footsteps of the Nantyglo Chartists during the 1839 Uprising.
n On Saturday September 3 there is the eight-hour 18 mile hike along the Sirhowy Valley Walk following the ridgeway through three counties ending with views over the Bristol Channel. Free transport is provided to the start and from the finish.
n On Sunday September 12, the 13 mile Ebbw Fach Trail Walk takes place starting at the outdoor classroom of Parc Nant y Waun to the rear of South Street in Beaufort. Walkers can take their pick of heritage tours, ornithology, or wildlife. The walk is raising funds for In The Pink breast cancer charity and ends at the Guardian.
n Railway Ramble looks at the medieval landscapes of the Ebbw Fawr valley. It leaves Ebbw Vale Parkway Station at 10am on Tuesday 13 September. The walk ends at Llanhilleth Station in time to catch the train back to Ebbw Vale.
A packed lunch is recommended for all walks except the Ebbw Fach Trail where refreshments will be available. To book your place call 01443 838632, and for further information call Alyson Tippings on 07968 472812.
