I wonder what the MP will have to say about the hundreds in his constituency who have already be affected by the Employment Support Allowance (E S A) , Work Capability Assessments (W C As,) undertaken by the well known company namely ATOS , a company who has never had any positive media or press coverage in the years they have been engaged in denying disabled persons a justifiable right to their benefits.
The WCA is well known and documented for being the "Not Fit For Purpose Test" ( those that have had one will fully agree), along the corridors of power where there are many  "good and eminent Politicians"refer to the whole system as a "fundamentally flawed test/ assessment".
The MP for Blaenau  Gwent has not signed any Early Day Motions (E D Ms) regarding such ,
The MP who sits on the Public Accounts Committee was not even present when the Permanent Secretary of DWP  Robert Deveraux was grilled over ATOS,  ESA ,WCAs and its cost to the tax payers, by the above committee
The MP has never joined in any of the debates secured by Tom Greatrex and John McDonnell (Mps) , whereby many welsh MPs have voiced their concerns and have given immense support to their respective constituents, to the previous incumbent Grayling

The recent  Back Bench Debate  17 January 2013, "ATOS and the Work Capability Assessment " in the House of Commons secured by Michael Meacher  MP (Lab)  where some 30 plus MPs (cross party) again raised very serious concerns highlighting the difficulties experienced by some of their constituents, some who took their own lives after so much harrassment and stress from DWP and Atos.
The MP who says he is concerned about this ?   Once again he was absent  from this very important debate that affects hundreds of his constituents across The Borough
However the very following debate only minutes later The MP for Blaenau Gwent was sitting in the second row behind the Dispatch Box, regarding Nuclear Deterrent. That was of great comfort and re-assurance for those affected by the The DWP /Atos, (Not Fit For Purpose) Work Capability Assessment no doubt !.

Perhaps someone should remind The MP of the amount of difficulties hundreds of his constituents are experiencing regarding the ESA  WCA The DWP and ATOS, and how it should be more of a priority of his than Nuclear Deterrent.
Perhaps someone should inform The MP there are now scores of people across The Borough who have realised , it has become noticable, due to his absences from the above, how of little importance this is to him.
Perhaps someone should remind The MP that the people of Blaenau Gwent do not have short memories and that "word of mouth" is still one of the best publicity machines over and above any glossy flyer that comes through the letter boxes when elections are due.
Never let there be so much room in you life for too much complacency MP , remember what happened not so long ago to Maggie (not Thatcher).
No doubt Mr Legge will contribute some valuable input here in support of The MP for Blaenau Gwent, via as we believe HMc Wink

For those who have been affected and lost Benefit Awards through the  ESA  W C A  and Atos,  there is a wealth of "FREE" information help and practical support  at www.dwpexamination.org

It is nothing to do with DWP here you will find people who have be affected and share their experiences and give that all important "Free" advice and support.

If you're hoping for a reasoned response from EL I'm afraid you may wait a long time. Chances are he'll:

A accuse you of being Tory/anti-Labour
B tell you what great things Labour did in the 1940s
C not respond at all

He lives next door to my dads cousin. I could ask her to check.  Smile

Personally I would give it till after the boss has graced the borough with his presence. No doubt he wil give his orders on how to respond.

Sorry for the delay

What has happened to Eddie Legge no replies to XPOP Martyn 142 and the nosy Kidwent who appears to know my next door neighbour?
Computor trouble for a number of weeks when switching on in the mornings all I got
Was monitor going to sleep and would not wake up
Insured with Domestic and General what a battle to have it sorted after numerous phone calls they wanted me to pack it up and send it off for repairs
A young neighbour who heard about my problems called today and fixed it
However I contacted our MP Nick Smith and his reply as follows,
Eddie legge

The Work Capability Assessment (WCA) and ATOS are of course important issues in Blaenau Gwent and many constituents write to me about their personal cases or to express their general concerns about the government’s welfare reform policies.
120 people have contacted me about problems relating to all benefits in the last six months.

If they highlight a particular problem I always raise it with the DWP or the Minister.

Yes there was an excellent debate on ATOS on 17th January. I couldn’t speak in the debate due to other commitments, but interestingly MPs from all parties expressed concerns about the operation of ATOS and called for urgent reforms.

I would like to see the Government move much faster - for example in acting on the recommendations made by charities on dealing with mental health problems and fluctuating conditions - and to reduce the bureaucracy of the current system.
Of course ATOS Healthcare has questions to answer about the effectiveness of the current assessment process, given the large percentage of people (38%) who win their appeals.
Can I say that I have signed Early Day Motion 295 on ATOS.
Finally if you do have a problem with benefits, I will try to help and you can contact my office on 01495 313167 or e-mail nick.smith.mp@parliament.uk

[quote="Eddie legge:19557"]What has happened to Eddie Legge no replies to XPOP Martyn 142 and the nosy Kidwent who appears to know my next door neighbour?

So sorry Mr Legge I didn't realise that knowing my fathers cousin is your neighbour made me nosy.

I am impressed that this time you have actually taken the trouble to respond to the article and not gone off on a tangent.    However the MP has not said what business kept him from a debate about a subject that has caused 120 of his constituents to contact him and probably has affected many more.
X P O P

I stand corrected he did sign EDM 295,although normally  he is reluctant to sign EDMs ,so I will be bold an sincerely apologise , however there is still a large number across The Borough believes he could more actively involve himself regarding the serious issues surrounding The DWP , not only regarding ATOS and ESA/WCAs , the ** bedroom tax ** will shortly be functioning at full vigour in April, to be followed with Disability Living Allowance (DLA) replaced with Personal Independence Payment (PiP), when that begins it will be something interesting to follow as  Capita is the company that will be assessing claims in Wales and not The Mighty  ATOS.

as the end of term reports sometimes state  "Room for improvement " or   "Must / can do better"
Guess Mr Legge has his own personal dedicated hotline through to London  Laughing  Rolling Eyes
** BEDROOM TAX **  Figures from the O N S show that household bills have risen 4 times faster than the average earnings since the credit crisis, leaving many families fearing worse to come throughout 2013.
The "Independant" Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) said the sum MPs can claim was increasing  for "Associated Expenditure" on their second homes to reflect inflation.
The cash takes the total amount that can be spent on rent and bills from £20,000 to £20,100 from April 1st this year.
IPSA said the cash was to help MPs pay for increases in the cost of Freeview TV gas electricity and insurances  , they will also be getting an increase of 2.4% for the  running costs of their offices,.

A ha  a ha so thats why the Bedroom Tax will be effected from April 1st .

Thanks  KD for picking up on the 120 people , that is of course the number who did make contact you can bet there is probably quadruple that number that either ,did not wish to, or did not know how to , or did not think it would be of any benefit to , judging by what I hear circulating around.

Well strictly speaking I'm not sure EL has responded to the article. He has, as he usually does, reproduced what someone else has said. We've still got no idea what his own thoughts are, the same as we don't have about the endless emails from Labour HQ which he copies here.

Wrong again Eddie I neither considered, nor suggested, phoning your nieghbour. If you can show me where in my in posting I did suggest that, then I will stand corrected. To be honest I am not that interested in what had happened to you.

I apolgised for that, and did say He rarely signs EDMs , it  was, at sometime stated on his page somewhere, however as you seem to have the hotline direct through to "Nick" as you refer to him , you would be wise to inform him there are scores of people in his constituency now fully aware of his lack of enthusiasm regarding the serious problems and hardship affecting them due to The DWP ATOS and the WCA ,and all seem to determine he should be much much  more actively engaged in helping the disabled of The Borough affected by this cruel regime,  no doubt you have not had to experience this not fit for purpose test (ESA WCA) yourself. if you haven't , you simply have no idea what it really is all about, in short it was brought in to throw people off benefit awards, seems very much like neither you or N S  has been following the recent TV Reports/Documentaries surounding the whole debacle.

He has stated 120 have contacted him, that being the number that actually DID contact him for help and "Support" , If I was The MP and 120 people contacted me I can assure you I would be putting immense pressure on those at the top of DWP (just like many of the other MPs who have joined in debates etc;) sorry to have to say this and I realise this will probably grossly offend you in particular, several that have contacted us all declare they thought it a complete waste of time doing so, therfore you need to take into consideration of a few hundred that realised it would be fruitless contacting him .
Perhaps Mr Legge , yourself and "Nick" as you refer to him, should spend a whole weekend trawling through the internet to fully establish the hardship , anxiety and despair experienced by thousands upon thousands of disabled people regarding ESA WCA and the treatment they receive from Atos and The DWP. google in ATOS and DWP and take a look at the youtube videos it may make you take the blinkers off.
Take a look around UK Parliament and see the number of MPs fully engaged in helping their respective constituents regarding such,
More recently Mr Michael Meacher MP (Lab) wrote to I D Smith and after 5 weeks had no reply (so what are they hiding or afraid of) , he managed to approach  Mark Hoban the minister for work and pensions and was given an excuse his (Hobans) Diary was too full etc , in parliamentary speech this means a Flat "NO  I am not going to see you"
and "he was not seeing Spartacus".
Nick says about the 120 people , so he sends this on to the ministers and   almost all get the same carbon copy reply from Ministers of DWP,
but then of course you being so familiar with the MP you would know all about that too.
Eddie legge

Over to you XPOP

To XPOP
When ex councillor Rocke was using Abertillery Forum to criticize Alun Davies and Nick  Smith I did let him know when our AM and MP would be in Abertillery giving him the opportunity to speak directly to each in turn but to no avail, he did however write to the local press
I don’t know if you have ever been in the company of Blaenau Gwent’s MP or AM
Or if you would given the opportunity
However the Gwent Gazette has published a letter this week from our MP Nick Smith
What a wonderful opportunity for you to reply? I am sure the Gazette and its readers would appreciate your views most especially the ones you have chosen to use in order to impress Abertillery Forum members
No need to give your true identity Gazette will accept a letter posted by email

No help from another every word writen my own

XPOP whoever you are let me tell you what I know  about struggle and strife not from reading about others but from being born and reared in a one up and down  damp infested hovel in Forge Row Nantyglo
My brother and I age 16 and 17 still sharing the same bedroom as our parents and for ten of those years without electric light or power, Candles a paraffin oil lamp and a battery operated wireless
Are we living in poverty mam, “No my love others worse off than us”Driping and Margarine some things I cherish most, by the fire of a morning cold our mam there making toast
Not until age 16 1952 did I have a tidy home with all mod cons
The war years made growing up a lot harder, Food rationing shortages a plenty
That pot under the bed, when I grew older it was a nightmare trying to have a wee without making a sound, My father I can see him now stood up peeing in the pot and talking to my mother same time, never knew no other,  Oh god don’t let me ever have to do that
For my mother and countless others, Back braking soul destroying Washing cleaning and ironing, Water all boiled on fire, iron heated on fire, food cooked on fire.
Monday was washing day. Diner fry up from Sunday, Tuesday all day ironing
A women’s work is never done, very true in those days
And what about the children, and the childish games we often played, from our own imagination happiness never strayed, what we never had, we made or did without out
Neighbours then were like proper family, Doors not locked any need to knock come along inside just made a pot of tea
The news about Market Hall closing brings back many treasured memories going to the Pictures was everyone’s favourite outing, most especially us kids I would only hope that the MGM Lion would continue to roar and the Market Hall never close its door
In third world countries poverty bad, such awful times we never had. A child will walk many miles a day, to carry water come what may, We turn a tap and the water is there, Are we all asleep is it really fair

Yes Eddie you have told us before.

Real despair are the 75 people a week who commit suicide as a result of these tests. That's a fact Eddie perhaps if you ask your MP he Will confirm it for you.
martyn142

See what I mean?

When Team Legge sees they're losing an argument, they just start writing about something unrelated, hoping to throw us off the scent.

They are impossible to argue with because they won't stick to the subject being discussed.  Rolling Eyes
kdwent

They try but it ain't gonna work this time.  Pop has raised a valid point and if they can't give a reasoned reply then it just shows the values of the party elected to represent this borough.

I have a few more facts and figures ready to keep them on track but lets see if they dare raise thier heads above the parapet first.
Eddie legge

Neither one of you has ever lived in such unpleasant degrading conditions
And I don’t suppose you would believe who made our living conditions better
Labour PM Clement Attlee who won a landslide victory after World War 2 embarked on a nation wide social housing building program, giving us a home to be proud of
And as for you self Martyn 142 I respect another’s political beliefs and the way he chooses to vote but I would question why you would rather lose your spleen than vote labour,
What I also find so hard to grasp is why you believed the sun would shine from the behind of Independent councillor Dave Rocke
And as for you Kdwent life is so precious, to take ones own life, is such an awful tragedy and loss, and for those you believe to be responsible for people committing suicide next time you write don’t insinuate and suppose, tell us who should carry blame and why
Like Martyn 142 Kdwent you are not a Labour Party supporter only when you hand a free prescription to Chemist, and park your car on hospital grounds, What about free buss passes, maybe a relative or friend, Martyn has already told us that it was Labour who introduced Student Fees, ask him who pays the most English or Welsh Students
Before I go a reminder about Labours generous winter heating allowance for the elderly and disabled £300 and £250
Remember that proverbial Brass Monkey, before we had a miserly £5 winter allowance from the Tories he would have been out all night looking for a welder
A small poem about the place where I was born
The valleys that gave birth, to comradeship and song, Nye Bevan and the Welfare State, Tis where we all belong

The fitness for work tests are to blame for 75 people a week taking thier lives. Hope that is clear enough for you.
Here is a direct question for you what is your friend the MP doing about it?  Although its a direct question I'm not really expecting a straight answer.

Oh dear what a catch up here I have to do , I may have to do so in more than one posting , so for that I apologise in advance.

I have been on a short break away, staying with a few lifelong friends in good old Camden Town London.

How kind of you Mr Legge to give some extracts from your Autobiography to members of the forum , somehow I gather you have appeared to have done much of this previoulsy, however , how yourself and father voided your bladder into some reseptactle , suggests you are once again taking the topic off track.

Regarding the eminent Politician Mr Michael Meacher , I have to inform you at the debate of 17 Jan ist; he did indeed mention a number of people by name in his opening statement.
The persons Mr Meacher did refer to, did ,I believe appear in their own respective area Newpsapers.
Maybe Mr Meacher decieded not to reveal the names of the people to the newspaper you have given reference to.

Regarding Gwent Gazette , I stopped purchasing this news (lack of) paper in 2007, there was an ever decreasing amount of substantial or indeed significant news articles relevant to Abertillery, The letters page became predicatble week on week with Garden Wall / Bar Room, Politics /issues together with the sniping, of which such, neither being a hobby of mine, The G G was hardly worth wrapping left over fish and chips in.

I have a propensity for reading more Quality Newspapers with substantial articles , many of which being applicable to the residents of Abertillery and indeed The Borough at large.

You have stated in a previous posting The MP for Blaenau Gwent has recently posted something in the letters page of GG,
You appear to give the impression you are some kind of Private "Under " Secretary to the MP , can you please post the actual link to the letter or maybe copy and paste it here on the forum for all of those many people who no longer purchase the GG,
If said article appears here I  may be able to respond in due course, I am obliged.

It is My Choice of Newspapers which I choose to Spend My Money on, as indeed it is for eveyone.
Whilst we are still in off track of the topic mode.
Regarding myself being in the company of the AM or MP or actually wanting to ;-
In the past , on a professional level and informal social interaction levels on numerous ocassions met with ;- Geoff Thomas , Lew Smith and Peter Law , together with many of The Borough Councillors , those days not "too" long ago when the politicians served The Borough with creedence and altruism !.

You started this topic , I responded without rancour in favour of stating some very true and obvious facts of the matter, which as Martyn and KDW myself and a few others (via PMsgs) are still awaiting a more positive response.
I am not using The Abertillery Forum to make an impression on the readers or for that matter anyone else, that I leave to you in your struggle to endeavour .
I would very much appreciate if you could post the link or copy and paste the letter that the MP has recently posted in the GG, hopefully I will be able to respond in due course , I am obliged.

The article as I remember was about the Tory Lib Dems Bedroom tax Nick Smith said Cameron and Ian Duncan Smith have been forced to admit that it is impossible for their plans to work because there aren’t enough smaller homes for families to move in to In Wales he said 22% of people living in council or housing association homes who get housing benefit will be hit

Were you really expecting any different XPop.

It would appear that when they, (team Eddie), are confronted with a situation that they cannot post an answer to that paints them in a favorable light, then they either try to change the topic completely or go for the personal attack.  In this case they have tried both but have failed miserably in all attempts.

I was asked by Eddie to state directly who I thought was responsible for 75 suicides a week, (despite my stating clearly who was responsible when I posted that fact), you yourself have asked a number of direct questions and they have not been able to answer any of them.

Still we can get the final say at the Ballot box.
X P O P

indeed we can Kdw  at the next elections Wink

Looks like HLMc has a crystal ball into the bargain here, my army of helpers ? , your crystal ball is very much clouded, I do not have an army of helpers , and with hand on heart that is the truth !.
The fact that people are responding is because they too would like to see a copy of the letter the MP posted in The GG.
Perhaps one of the reasons I have not seen or been told of said letter may strongly indicate the "current" MP for Blaenau Gwent may not be quite as popular in The Borough as you and your team perceive.

The MP criticised ministers ? that I assume giving reference to The Secretary of State for DWP and his underlings , criticising is one thing, actually confronting them  with valour and virtue being another, truth being revealed so far there has been many in number of the Labour Party  MPs unafraid of doing so and thankfully will not let the matter be brushed further under the carpets at Westminster. You really are not following the script, how you can class myself and /or others as Labour Bashers when I am very much in support of the actively involved LABOUR MPs (not ours) that appear to have given unconditional support not only to their own respective constituents but also the wider population affected .

I understand the "current" MPs letter will not be posted here, I am saddened to learn such, however (time permitting) I will search walesonline, in hope of bringing this topic to a closure , but have a feeling given the amount of views so far its not over ,as the saying goes "till the fat lady sings"

Unlike yourself I did not question them as to why they have not given a response, maybe they were awaiting to see what the "current" MP had written in the GG before adding their respective comments, it is a Forum after all for expressing ones views  as and when each individual deems necassary.

Re: Grow up Martyn

When Martyn was asked why he still replies to Eddie’s postings his reply just too much fun making you squirm

Hello Eddie, now before you insinuate i am also part of some conspiracy against you or any particular political party as you have in the past let me make it clear i am not.
I have been reading your thread with interest and also in the expectancy of a reply from you that has something credible and pertains to your thread and up to this point i haven't seen one.
You ask why Martyn 142 still replies to you? well i would imagine it would be because he is an interested member of the forum such as myself and he is i believe one of the Admin so again i would imagine he has a vested interest in the success of this forum, as do the others that have taken the time to read your comments and reply to you.
If as you seem to imply you do not want members to reply to your posts why bother posting in the first place? there are other places you could put your E-mails and letters on besides Abertillery online if you are not happy with their input.
If you read other threads where these members have posted you will see debate (sometimes heated) but  relating to the particular thread  credible and interesting.

By the way as you probably know i posted on another thread started by you ( Ebbw Valley Rail Link)
asking you for a reply which i'm still patiently waiting for, it would be common courtesy to reply thank you.

Eddie Legges - if you really have the Labour Party at heart then have a glance back over this thread and ask yourselves are you really serving them well?

You know that you are not going to win back my vote - I had enough of Labour when it became impossible to tell their policies (or MPs) from those of the Tories.

However, I happen to know that some of the people who have contributed to this and other threads where you've attacked them are either current Labour supporters or at least still vote Labour, even if begrudgingly. And yet you've managed to unite everyone against you.

Now, you can either carry on as you are and alienate the whole forum from your party even further, or you can try to actually engage in debate with them and answer their genuinely-held worries.

Obviously you won't. You have shown yourselves time and again to be incapable of rational discussion due to a combination of stupidity, nastiness and an inability to admit any failings at all on Labour's part.

But it's your beloved party that you are harming as much as the reputation  of Team Legge. If you are Tory double agents you are doing your masters proud  Laughing

Reply to Mr Jones

Two interesting articles on Ebbw Valley Rail Link
One in Gwent Gazette today and South Wales Argus
martyn142

What's this got to do with benefits which is the theme of this thread - which you started?  Laughing
kdwent

Ahhh you may well ask.  Cos i bet you won't get a rational answer lol.

Martyn 142 the small posting about Ebbw Valley Rail link was for Ian Jones
Did you not know in spite of the recent postings and discussions regarding the Tory Lib Dems crazy bedroom tax? And the DLA Mr Jones wanted to know more about The Ebbw Valley Rail Link are you suggesting I should have ignored him and not to have mentioned about report in today’s Gwent Gazette and South Wales Argus
martyn142

Maybe you could have posted your reply on the rail link thread which Ian referred to in his post? Bit of a crazy concept I know to have different threads for different issues.
Eddie legge

Was that reply rational enough for you Kdwent
Both yourself and Martyn are only to ready to
jump down my throat
martyn142

Don't dish it out then Team Legge. Treat others with respect and they'll do the same to you.
X P O P

Truth being there are more and more people saying they think The "Current" Labour MP for Blaenau Gwent is more a Conservative than Cameron, their saying not mine , however given the facts of what we  know so far I am in favour of adopting that saying too.

Despite internet searches sadly I have yet to find anything via wales online in respect of the Letter the MP has had published in the GG, the search revealed something about  Nick Smith MP and a Radio Station, Islington ,North London .

I too always supported and Voted Labour until recent years !.
Perhaps it would be wise for The Esoteric Team to remember the  The Labour Manifesto of of 1945.
"Social Insurance Against The Rainy Day"
"If  unhappily, bad times were to come and our opponets were in power then , running true to form, they would be likely to cut these social provisions on the plea the nation could not meet the cost"

and look how the many "not All" within the party for the majority of time support The CONDEM government on its failing Welfare Reforms.

I will not bore the kind viewers who have shown much interest and support in this topic, I will, in a following post sometime soon give the concerned readers a slightly better in-depth sight as to how the UK Government The DWP and ATOS  are treating thousands of disabled people nationwide in respect of the Not fit for purpose ESA W C A , hopefully this may influence the MP , not to simply criticise The Ministers responsible, but to actively support those Labour MPs  who give  comapassion  and understanding by genuine concerned reason and respect for their constituents from absorbing the reality of not only ,the ESA , of other issues surrounding Welfare Reform.

There's a lot of issues here and rather than dilute the original thread and cause it to lose focus I'll open up some related ones.
