jiving at the market hall

I remember jiving at the market hall, penybont scouts hut and  six bells scouts hut round about 1954 to 57. Most saturday nights there was a dance on somewhere. Also, does anyone remember the monkey parade on Sunday  evenings ?
dragongirl

Hi Maude'
Happy New Year- are we in nostalgic mood,? jiving at the various
Dance halls !!! I can remember Pat Jenkins was an excellent jive artiste
I think she used to partner Glyn Davies before he took up with Mary
Gilson THEY  were really good, used to clear the floor wherever they went!!!
Too Too energetic for me!! Monkey Parades on Sunday evenings.
parading in our Sunday best from the Foundry Bridge down Church St across Somerset St maybe a drink in the cafe then back through the Arcade to eye the Talent from Blaina and Brynmawr AND Abertillery
ofcourse---- the good old days but quite innocent by todays standard I think. Hope you had a good Christmas and are having a nice New Years
day  Will speak to you soon
pooroldjon

hi dragon girl

those days hold special memories for me.
can you remember the chip machine in howell's cafe in the arcade.

Abertillery in the Sixies was a great place to grow up.A Dance to go every night and I was alway out Playing Football or Rugby {mostly Rugby}.
Having been away nearly 30 years things have changed so much ,some for the good and not so good.
Looking back over my Life I'm so glad I grew up in Abertillery.

Pooroldjon,I think you are right,I was a big fan of Derick having had a few games myself for the Gwent in the late 60s.My brother and I were sat in the stand in Pontypool park watching them training and doing a little scouting about 15 years ago, when chunky came and sat in front of us.He was home on a visit from either Canada or New Zealand. He was a very good scrum half and a nice guy as well.I remember chester was his big buddy at the Gwent, and a centre Alan ???. Cool

Ebbw Vale rugby player.

Got it in one boyo,he did play for Ebbw, and never once lost to Aber in 7 seasons after being more or less rejected by them.I thought once I mentioned Nobby you would realize who I was,as we were like siamese twins at the time.He is still well and I call in to see him every now and again. Will let him know we have been in touch next week.

I think your Brother was picked for Wales but the Game was called off ,very unlucky.
pent boy

Welsh cap

He was also robbed one season, having been reserve against England and Scotland, for some reason they picked Norman Gale as reserve 2 weeks later,Ebbw didnt play the week in-between so it couldnt be said that there was a loss of form.On the morning of the game in Dublin Bryn Meredith dropped out and Gale had his 1st cap.I was speaking to John Lewis saturday. He is in his 70s now but looks really good,he was with Brandon Cripps and Malcolm Day watching Aber/B.G. against Abercarn.17-0 to Abercarn.
