Keeping the ball in hand

When Blaenau Gwent were governed by Independents it was the first Welsh authority to require special measures having failed to give pupils an acceptable standard of education
I donít remember Labour then in opposition using Independents embarrassing situation for political gain, it was however the damming Estyn report that brought an end to leader Hillmans political carrier and Independents dream of governing Blaenau Gwent
Today it isnít only Blaenau Gwent who is suffering financially all 22 local authorities in Wales have had to make savage cuts to public services, and why The Tory Lib Dems paltry budget settlement to our Welsh Assembly The sooner they are kicked into touch the better
Blaenau Gwent isn't out of those tough financial woods yet However Lesley Griffiths Labour local government minister says Blaenau Gwent is making good progress and doesn't need to dip into the reserves as much as it had expected it to balance the budget
What is best all round like a rugby team let us all play together passing the ball from hand to hand until we reach our goal the try line

What won the Tories the 1979 Election?

Ah yes,'The country isn't working under Labour'.

Well, 100+ breadwinners of Blaenau Gwent won't be working by April, courtesy of this Labour-bled Council.

Oh - and more than that won't be on its payroll, given the Leisure Trust and Lord knows what else.

Never mind, the mechanics will always have a job, as long as the chosen ones have the Civic Car to galavant about in.

(Mr. Rose - you'd better be taking all this in).

Labour for ever

Some of us needs to be reminded what the 13 years of a labour led Government gave us
Minimum earnings, 4 weeks holiday by law, winter heating allowance, free bus passes, pension credits, tax credits, child credits, union recognition and poured billions into our NHS that Thatcher and Major had run down
Even though it was a labour government who introduced student top up fees, In Wales some 90,000 Welsh students a year will have degree courses heavily subsidized by our Labour led Welsh  Assembly
not forgetting in Wales thanks to labour free prescriptions for all free hospital parking and free bus passes for the elderly and disabled

You forgot to mention a couple of wars there Eddie. Easily done though.

Was it a necessity  having military boots on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan will be questioned and debated forever and a day What we do know precious Lives were lost to give those †in Iraq and Afghan a better one
Bush and Blair brought peace in Bosnia and it was Tony Blair who brought peace to N Ireland

"union recognition"
I thought they were recognised long long before that?

Labour left the Tories anti-union laws pretty much intact. Presumably they thought they were a good thing.  Embarassed

The Good Friday Peace Accord was created and signed under John Major.

Rewriting history is project of the day it seems.

Well, well, well, it's all gone very quiet hasn't it????????????

I suspect that the higher-ups have told the minions to leave it alone, just in case.

History shall tell us

History lesson for David know all Rocke It was John Major successor Tony Blair who was unrelenting in his quest for peace in Northern Ireland making it a major priority of his Government
Blair went to Ireland 37 times as Prime Minister travelling there more often than any one of his predecessors
It was Blairís diplomacy that wooed the previously immovable Paisley
Tony Blair removed a key obstacle for peace talks his predecessor insistence that the Irish Republican Army agree to a timetable for turning in its weapons before the I, R, A political wing Sinn Fein could be admitted to peace talks,

Was this before or after he launched a war on Iraq on the false pretext it had weapons of mass destruction?

And of course Afghanistan was a major threat to the security of our country, so let's also praise him for saving us from the Taliban and their hyper-long range Kalashnikovs.

Typical bolitician in my experience - will listen and act on anything 'the professionals' say, without question, and then talk bo....er nonsense.... trying to justify 'their' decision.

So what about McCarthy's brave fight to save us from the clutches of Caerphilly then?
