Letter-free Gazette.

I don't know if it's a good thing or bad but The Gazette seems to be lacking a Letters page these days.

That means that last week this had no chance of being published:

"Blaenau Gwent Council is in crisis and we have the same old excuses being bandied about. It’s always ‘their’ fault that we are in this mess. Labour spent four years telling everyone how bad things were under the Independent administration, claiming and/or implying that it could do better and regained power in 2012 as a result. Does anyone actually believe that things have got better? Street lighting is now switched off for longer (in my neighbourhood anyway), we still have fortnightly refuse collections, wheelie bins and have to separate our waste or get fined, more schools are being closed and our towns are in economic decline (and look like permanent building sites).

There is no point in politicians of all sides blaming the other. It is that sort of mentality that got us into this mess in the first place. One side spends most of the time highlighting problems and blaming the other and the other spends far too much time and effort on defending itself rather than get on with the job in hand (if indeed it is capable of doing so).

Labour are now in control and Cllr McCarthy and AM Alun Davies (who has done a remarkable U-turn from criticising the council at every opportunity to almost being an apologist for it) need to realise that the administration’s responsibility is to sort out the mess, to do the task in hand and not to complain about the job it was given – after all, they wanted it.

At a recent public meeting the group of councillors that are not part of the ruling group were referred to by Cllr McCarthy as ‘the minority group’. Is there no Opposition Group any more? I believe that someone needs to stand up for the people and common sense. Practical and viable solutions to the Borough’s problems have to be produced and brought forward in a constructive manner, not using what I term ‘bolitics’ ie. spouting illogical nonsense for political purposes.

Blaenau Gwent is in the Relegation Zone. We could lose our status as a premier local authority and our identity. Managers and coaches of teams in a similar spot would be at risk of losing, or lose, their jobs yet our councillors continue to draw the maximum salary that the council allows, continue to make expense claims, continue to accrue bigger pensions and enjoy corporate transport and hospitality, all of which are funded by our higher-than-average Council Tax levy (which if information given at a recent public meeting is to be believed will increase far more than the rate of inflation).

Blaenau Gwent is a Labour-led council by name, but in my view the Borough has become Labour-bled by nature.

And another that won't be published on it's non-existent Letters Page:

"So councillors have decreed that the citizens of Blaenau Gwent will have to stump up a Council Tax increase of more than inflation, in addition to cuts in the workforce and services.
I accept that the Borough is spending too much and has to cut its cloth accordingly and those councillors have had to decide where the cuts are to be made.

Unsurprisingly payments they receive weren't affected, and neither were their perks.
In the financial year 2012/13 a total of £68,609.31 was put into their personal pension funds by Council Tax payers.
This year it will be even more, probably well over £70,000 (It was already £55,645.12 as at 31st December).

Also, in the Civic year ended last May the mayor had use of the car 159 times. The mayor has a lot of functions etc, so it is to be expected that they would use the car on average once every two days. However, councillors ran around in it a total of 416 times. Since they only 'work' Monday - Friday, and there are no meetings in August, Bank Holidays etc. this means that on average a councillor is using the car twice a day, which begs the question just who is the car for?

My point however is that while the council is Labour-led the Borough and its citizens continue to be Labour-bled.

You are without a doubt, one of, if not thee most offensive, deplorable, and despicable person on this forum.

I have noted that Admin as asked you for an explanation into one of your pathetic posts regarding another member of this forum. I have also noted that you haven’t replied to Admin. What I suggest is that Admin makes an example of you and bans you for life.
Now I know that you will rejoin under another name, but the hatred, which you show, cannot be hidden hopefully resulting in another ban.

Now before you are kicked off this forum (fingers crossed) are you Pro-Labour or Pro-Trouble Maker?

And as the Dung Beetle been to see you yet?

Probably couldn’t more like, due to your inability to read.

But fear not, I have a plan. You could enrol onto a basic literacy and numeracy course in the brand new, multi-million pound Learning Campus in Ebbw Vale. You can find it easily; you just follow the multi-million pound Road Improvement works which are taking place.

Anyway the Learning Campus is next to the brand new multi-million pound Leisure Centre with it's brand new multi-million pound football, rugby and several, state of the art 3G pitches….You know it, its next to the brand new multi-million pound school. The one by the new multi-million pound Hospital.

But how will you get there? Can you drive? Do you want to drive there with all the multi-million pound Road Improvement works taking place? The public transport, as you know is non existent…..I know you can catch the train. If you can wait another year or two you can catch the train to right outside the brand new multi-million pound Learning Campus, because of the brand new multi-million pound mile and a half train line which is being laid. You can then use the brand new multi-million pound Mountain Rail line up to Ebbw Vale town centre. But you must get there early, because with all the people coming from as far a field as Newbridge just to use it, the queues are going to be very long.

But there is no train station in Abertillery, and the feeder buses don’t run anymore. So unless by some strange quirk of fate you are lucky enough to live in Llanhilleth you’ll have to get a lift…. I know, you can get a lift in one of those Council vehicles you see… No not the big orange vans or lorries, don’t worry about them, they will soon be a thing of the past. No I was talking about the Councils big new shiny car, that goes to Llanhilleth fairly regular. You can have a lift in that...... Sorry I don’t think, you won't be able to, because I don’t think it will be going to Llanhilleth for much longer.

Never mind back to the drawing board.
Rocke

Ouch !!!

PS - the car goes to (the) Blaenau Gwent an awful lot as well.

Mr T/Bone on the subject of feeder busses you may not be aware that whilst in opposition the labour group organised a petition to get the feeder busses up and running again ( even though i do believe it was Cardiff who pulled the plug on them.)

What i cannot understand is why now they are back in power they have not followed through with their petition/plan to get the feeder bus service up and running again as they had thousands of signatures from the public. They whilst in opposition were VERY passionate and indeed verbal about it toward the then Independent Council it seems the public were used for p*****cal purposes and are now once again forgotten.

Thanks Ian - you've given me an idea for this week's mental agility exercise for Kermit er..... nEddie the frog:

The possible answers are given nEddie.
All you have to do is pick the correct one(s).

What i cannot understand is why now they are back in power they have not followed through with their petition/plan to get the

a) feeder bus service up and running again
b) street lighting switched back on full-time
c) return to weekly refuse collections
d) wheelie bins removed
e) rail link from Abertillery
f) full amount of regeneration money promised for Abertillery, which Aberystwyth Al and Cllr McCarthy claimed the credit for (and all the er... regeneration that should have come with it)
g) litter wardens and their bonus scheme of fines removed
h) streets cleared of snow (like wot Knightsbridge Nick campaigned for) each and every year as necessary. (Some of us remember last year's fiasco)
i) all of these things

as they had thousands of signatures from the public. They whilst in opposition were VERY passionate and indeed verbal about it toward the then Independent Council it seems the public were used for

i) p*****cal purposes and are now once again forgotten
ii) bolitical purposes and so are naturally ignored and treated with contempt for the 4 years and 10 months after the elections
iii) voting fodder
iv) practice for Aberystwyth Al's PR tool(s)
v) guinea pigs in some sort of advanced psychological experiment to see how taken in can people be
vi) all of these things

Mmm.... difficult one this.
Should keep the box of intellectual frogs musing for a bit.

I'll stick it on the Facebook group Speakeasy - I'll put it down as yours obviously. There was a post on there a couple of days ago which I'll post on here too - it should raise a chuckle.
