New Princess Street, Abertillery

Hi
On the 1908 marriage certificate for Isaac Webb and Jane Best he was living at 166 New Princess Street.  Does anyone know where this street is or was?  By 1910 he was living at 76 Duke Street.  Could it be that the street name was changed for some reason?  Some time ago I saw a map of Abertillery dated about 1901 and Duke Street was not built at that time, and there was no mention of a New Princess Street.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

I've seen Princess 1901 & Duke 1902.

Thank you Stoob for this info.  I've just got Alan Godfrey map of 1901 Abertillery which shows Princess Street, but Duke Street was not built then.  In the extract of a Kellys Directrory of 1906 which appears on the reverse of the map it lists several people living in New Princess Street.  Perhaps the word "New" was dropped from the name at some time!

Yes that's what happened with Gladstone Street, they dropped the new.
Duke Street is behind Princess Street, did the family members you mentioned come from Gloucestershire ?

Hi Stoob  Thank you for your message which explains the mystery.  My Grandfather, Isaac Webb came from Lydbrook, Forest of Dean and was a miner in Abertillery until the family left there to come to Bath where he bought a business.  Grandmother Jane Best came from Cheltenham.  Thanks again for your help and interest.  Helen
