FordI am looking for any relatives of the following family;
William Ford b.1863 Warrington, Lancs
Martha b.1872 Tredegar, Wales
Their children were;
Gladys Ford Unsure whether she exists or not
Ruby Rose Fordb.1890 Bridgend
Helena Ford b.1892 Abertillery
Chas Ford b.1896 Abertillery
William Ford b.1898 Abertillery
Thomas Ford b.1901 Swansea(my gt grandfather)
William and Martha were tailors in Abertillery, and are believed to have had their own business.
Martha is said to have died young of TB and the father was unable to cope with all the children and they were all sent to live with various friends and family, with Thomas being sent to live with my gt gt grandmother Beatrice Mary Richards, then Ellis (nee Ham). Thomas subsequently married Beatrice May Richards daughter of Beatrice Mary Richards. Thomas was a tin worker in Abertillery but after contracting TB had to leave the area, as I believe his home was provided by the mine, and he and his family moved to Brecon where Thomas died at Craig Y Nos Castle which had been turned temporarily into a hospital.
This is the only line of my family I have been unable to trace as there are very little family memories or records of Thomas’ family. If anything of the Ford family connection sounds familiar I would love to hear from you.

Re: Ford name in AbertilleryMy father Ronald Toombs grandfathers name was Thomas Ford who was a tailor in Abertillery during the 1930's. Before that time Thomas had a horse and cart business selling parafin. pots and pans etc. Unfortunately my father cannot remember his grandmothers first name. My fathers mother Gwendolyn Ford married Harry Toombs and they live in Pantypwdyn most of their married life. They later moved to Princess st.
Gwen as was she was most commonly known had three sisters Gladys Ford, Mable Ford and Ethel Ford. There was also two brothers Wyndam Ford and Cliff Ford.
Gladys lived on Blythe Street in Abertillery and she married a headmaster in Abertillery, his surname was Cook. Mable worked for her father in the womens tailor department of her fathers shop and lived with her father in Cromwell street. Mable remained a spinster and travelled the world. Ethel married into the Brown family.
Thomas Ford was also a choir master of Blaenau Gwent church in Abertillery and his daughter Ethel was the organist there.
Gladys and her husband adopted a child who nows lives in Western Super Mare.
I don't know if this information has any roots in your own research but I found it interesting that the Thomas Ford you were seeking information on was a Tailor in Abertillery too. We cannot recall any other man of this name owning a tailors shop there and put two and two together and may have made three, so if this is not of any help to you then we are sorry and hope that you find what you are searching for.
Best regards

In the 1911-1914 Kelly's Diectory, Thomas Ford, is listed as a china and glass dealer in Cromwell Street.
I have searched Kelly's and Morris's Directroy from 1861 to 1920 I could find no listings for William Ford.
