Our Right to Know - Councillors' Declared Interests

Councillors, like any elected representative, have to declare relationships in a Register of Interests.

These are things such as directorships, interests in organisations that have a relationship with the council, organisations companies etc. that close relatives are involved with etc.etc.

I've asked for all the entries (declarations) made in the register by Cllr McCarthy over the past 10 years.

Obviously I'll inform everyone of progress.
Under the FOI Act I should receive a reply by next Friday (when the 20-day deadline expires).

Personally I can't see why looking at 10 sheets of paper has taken that long when compiling information on 23 councillors and their pension contributions over two year took only 14 working days.

Blaenau Gwent Councillors Declared Interests

Just an added post in order that webcrawlers can pick up the words 'Blaenau Gwent Councillors' Interests', and hence this thread can be hit directly via a search engine.

Now for a much bigger audience.

One email in response to an FOI request:
(Note that it took all of the 20 days allowed in order to provide this.
I hope no-one's been retrospectively declaring interests).

"Mr Rocke,  With reference to your request.  The Registers are available for public inspection with the Monitoring Officer (name redacted by Rocke)  on floor 3A at the Civic Centre, Ebbw Vale for you to peruse.  Could you please make an appointment to view the documents in order to ensure that they can be made  available .  I have copied (name redacted by Rocke)  into the email. "

Anyone wish to join me, in order that it won't simply be my word.

(Anyone except nEddie Legge of course. The Register is in English, not Gaelic).

Doesn't matter.

Within the week we'll all know if Cllr Hedley McCarthy declared an interest in an Estate Agency business in Abertillery.

Oh, and since you're so stupid I'll spell it out for you - damned if he did, and completely shafted if he didn't.

Don't you just LOVE win-win situations ?

Wow Rocke 1-76p a day you old spendthrift you  Cool what were you driving a flymo?
I would still hazard a guess it worked out cheaper than if you had used the civic car and fooled people into thinking you weren't adding to the tax payers bill.
Well done for using your allowance wisely Rocke good on you.
Rocke

Only used to claim for the extra mileage from work/home to meetings as well Ian.

If I went from County Hall (my place of work) to EV and then home I only claimed from Aberbeeg - EV and back ie. the extra bit over and above my standard journey home from work.

Oh - and when I didn't have use of a car I used the bus, not the Civic Car. And if the bus times were inconvenient then I'd go early and wait around.

The only time I used the car was when it was shared, and hence it was cheaper on the public purse than, say, 3 of us claiming to go to Cardiff (apart from once when the buses were cancelled, I phoned in my apologies only to be told that I was needed for a Licencing Sub-committee, so they sent the car for me).

Oh - and all my claims were genuine.
