Shops and pubs

I understand that Iceland is still on schedule to open in November. I haven't heard any more about Wetherspoons after Rockey (I think) told us it was due to open in the new year with work commencing in October, so I assume that is still going ahead.

I've also heard that the former Fads premises are going to be taken over by another outlet. I'm not sure who but it sounded like a bargain-type store - not a pound shop though. Is this right does anyone know?

I've heard a rumour that Weherspoons has pulled the plug due the amount of work that needs to be done on what I believe is a listed building.

Really? That would be disappointing. Well it would be for me anyway although I know it wasn't being welcomed with open arms in all quarters.

I can imagine it would cost a fair bit to get it up to standard, although I'd have thought some of the other premises they've taken over might be listed too. They tend to go for the older properties with a bit of history.

BTW my brewery is back up and running now the shed is fully functional  Smile

I must admit that I'm a little sceptical that Wetherspoon's will be opening in the near future, especially in view of the way the number of people in Aber at weekend evenings has dropped off over the past year or two.

I was surprised when I heard that they had told us the target was January - surely open a month earlier and you've got the Christmas trade to tap into ? ( I wasn't at the meeting but I believe hedleymccarthy might have posted it on here ).
As I've said if they are to open in January then work will be commencing in October. Therefore the next few weeks will give us an indication.

I'll see what I can find out about the former FADS.
