Six Bells MineCharles Flook, my uncle, was killed during a mine rescue operation at Six Bells Colliery, Abertillery on 24th January 1939. He was 65 and was walking over the hill to his home at Brier Leigh, Christchurch, Aberbeeg, having finished his last shift.
Apparently, on hearing the alarm signal, he returned to the pit to help with the rescue. His death certificate said that he had a fractured skull due to a runaway tram.
Are there any records giving the details of the incident?
