Swffryd Hill

The hill from Royal Oak to Swffryd has been closed for several days now. Does anyone know why and, more importantly, when it will be reopening?
Grumpy

Went up the hill on Sunday. It was being inspected by the highways agency as the retaining wall had collapsed in several places.

Ah right. Might be out of operation for some time then  Crying or Very sad Thanks for the info.

Hope it's not out too long Hafodyrynys hill is a pain in the butt the time of night I come home, that's why I always come through the Swffryd.I've come over the British via Pantygasseg a couple of nights this week, let's suffice to say it was interesting on Tuesday in the lashing down rain Smile

Yes Ian, the trip down the hill to Crumlin added at least 10 minutes to my journey tonight.  Crying or Very sad

If it was summer I'd be tempted to go via the Tranch and Pantygasseg, not that it'd be quicker, just not to be sat in traffic. But as you say, it's not the best journey at this time of year.  Laughing

If it's the retaining wall I'm not sure why they couldn't just close one lane where necessary. Seems a bit excessive to close the whole road.
Ian

I haven't seen first hand what's happened, like you I hate sitting in traffic.I come down past Pontypool Tesco to the main road and the traffic towards Hafodyrynyns is backing up at the roundabout,so it's double back and up through the Tranch, wasn't so bad yesterday when it wasn't raining, still a few ponds on the road in the dips to skirt around though. At about 5.15pm when I come through there it 's still light(ish) so it's not so bad. Smile
