The Road to Hell, Part 1,763 (seems like)

Big sign up, just past the Llanhilleth Ind Estate lights on the way to Crumlin.

Bridge works starting in August and lasting 24 weeks.
That's Christmas and New Year stuffed then.

Turn Swffryd Hill into a toll road and you'll make a fortune.
Anthony Earl-Williams

So what is the solution, Rocky, in your opinion?
Hope you keep well.

Hello Anthony, nice to hear from you again.

Well the first thing would be to plan the work so that there's adequate alternatives during busy periods, which are 8-9 and 5-6 weekdays, and what 10-12 on Sats ? (Dec say 9-2 due to pre-Christmas traffic).

*  Keep Llan, especially the hill North of the Zebra Crossing, parking free. Enforce the double-yellows.
* If traffic backs up to the Glyndawr Estate entrance consider 'Plab B' of diverting traffic through the estate and up on to the top road, thereby using Llan as a relief. This prevents a dangerous backlog on the bend before the Ind Estate and a rear end shut because someone takes the bend at 60 not realising the danger.
* Similarly, if traffic backs up to near the 'Crumlin bend' then divert northbound traffic up Kendon Hill and through Trinant or The Pond.
This is actually beneficial because EV traffic could separate out at the bottom of Christchurch hill, leaving far less traffic using the roundabout at the bottom of Aberbeeg Hill.

In fact, although a radical approach I'd consider the possibility of phased closures. ie. the main A467 closed southbound and traffic diverted through Llan, giving northbound traffic an unimpeded run, and doing the reverse when required (closing northbound and diverting up Kendon Hill).

During a previous period of roadworks I used 'the Pond' and generally found that it added only 5 minutes to a normal journey time (it's only an extra 1.5 miles I think).

No doubt my ideas can be improved upon but I guarantee that they are a vast improvement on what will probably happen.

I mean look at the 'traffic signal enhancements' we've had recently.
The lights in Llan regularly turn red to stop southbound traffic, and then within seconds turn green - because there wasn't any vehicles waiting to come out of the junction !
50mph, about the most fuel efficient/least emissions and you are forced to stop and almost immediately pull off with a bit of smoke coming from your exhaust.
Does a lot for global warming that does.

Naughty bolitical dig (but I don't care) - Cllr Hedley McCarthy doesn't drive does he?
It is his ward though.
And I bet Irish supporter Cllr McIlwee will be happy with all the cars going back and forth through his patch in Swffryd.

Perhaps there will be tolls up there after all, in aid of Party funds.

 Very Happy

This. At all times, not just during road works.

It drives me mad that almost every morning I have to hang around behind a bus because the entire length of the hill has illegally parked cars. If it's Ok to park there take away the yellow lines. If it isn't then book them.  Evil or Very Mad

+1 there Martyn.

I was being slightly sneaky because IF it was done during the works and WHEN it proved to solve the problem PERHAPS the authorities would realise and do something about it.

It's a total mess down there as it is.
I've actually seen people reverse parking into quite tight gaps, bus stuck for what seeemd like 5 minutes, timetable all messed about etc. etc.
