What a week THAT was - Part 2After arguing over Boundaries it was up to Roseheyworth for the 6-monthly walkabout.
Looking at the state of Arrail View and Blaenau Gwent Rows.
During the walk we checked the doggy bins etc. and a resident pointed out the state of the swings in the Park.
Seems we've let the grass grow too much and a soakaway's blocked, causing a stream of water to be running over the play area.
And who's not represented in our walking party - yes, Leisure.
We've Highways, Cleansing, Housing Repairs, Maintenance, Env Healt, but no Leisure.
So, on the phone to get it looked at.
Checked on Friday and nowt's been done yet.
I've been chasing a roofing problem at Attlee Ave. and used the walkabout to bring it up.
Our Repairs man got the explanation and I was able to inform the tenant that their house - and all the neighbours - was having a full reroof some time this year.
One of the disadvantages of being out and about and so well known is that people come up to me at all times with all sorts of issues and for all sorts of advice.
One of the big advantages of being out and about and so well known is that I can provide people with a way to access the Council and I can also advise them on how to go about things, thereby cutting down on the time it takes for their issue to be handled, because they are better prepared and our officers and members don't have to pick through unnecessary or superfluous information.
Well, what is possibly the biggest thing I might handle during my term of office has come along.
I can't go into detail but I was approached concerning something that affects the community and I've prepared a paper and arranged a meeting with the Leader in order to bring it to the Council's attention and look into the possibility of brokering a ground-breaking partnership.
Hopefully more on that in the coming weeks.
I'm currently trying my damnedest to make sure that Abertillery Bluebirds are fully supported in their bid to gain Welsh League status.
There's some small works needed to the changing rooms in Cwm Nant and we seem to be very slow at getting them done.
30th April's the deadline and I'll be lobbying very strongly and pointing out that if they are refused a place in the Welsh League because the Council hasn't managed to knock a wall through and fit and plumb a power shower in the two months notice we had then all Hell will break loose.
Phew - there's been a lot of jaw-jaw this past week.
Nothing like Part 3, though.................
