If windfarms are so pretty and produce loads of electric why don't they put them in Festival Park- It is really windy up there or on the golf course in Brynmawr thought that was the highest point above sea level and further away from houses-must be even windier up there? _________________ Be careful about reading health books. The SCAM meeting at Abertillery last night was once again well attended, with representatives from Blaina, Brynmawr and Abertillery areas. Representation behalf of SCAM included Jeff Price, Alan Lewis, and Mark Holland.
They outlined the main issues once again for the benefit of those who were unable to attend the last meeting in Blaina, and for those new to the new wind farm proposal who wished to make their objections known.
A number of new concerns were brought up in relation to health and the environmental effect on this site of untouched moorland of scientific interest. Blaenau Gwent has not attracted the hoped for manufacturing industries needs must look to the future in exploiting tourism.
Letters to the above effect and in opposition to the wind farm proposal in Blaenau Gwent have been sent in by Dai Davies M.P. and Trish Law A.M. Anyone wishing to lodge an appeal in opposition please write to

Maybe a blot on the landscape but better than a nuclear power station at the top of the lakes
I have heard this scare tactic being used in support of the wind farm proposals before, do you really believe this may well be an option? I think it would be very unlikely Eddy.
If this wind farm proposal goes ahead I think Cwmtillery will soon wake up to reality that they will be more than a mere blot on the landscape. These companies recieve a substantial amount of money in subsidies and more companies are no doubt waiting in the wings to move in as soon as these plans gain approval.
There are a number of issues to consider besides just the visual impact. The generated electricity has to be transported to a sub station for use. There are also a number of health concerns associated with windfarms. A letter appeared in the Gwent Gazette this week stating that the turbines would be placed too far away from residential properties to become a real disturbance to the public, this is not strictly true research has found that the low frequency noise emmitted by these turbines can be picked up by both animals and people who may be sensitive to this sound. Noise can travel a good distance and echo within the valley. People have reported to have suffered from sleep disturbance, headaches and depression
Within a few years you may well find yourself surrounded by a plethora of giant turbines, but it will by then be - too little, too late- to do anything about it. These companies will be too busy raking in their profits to be concerned with our health problems and any compensation payouts will fall on deaf ears I am certain
