Oh and by the way Eddie, whatever the Millstad and other sporting facilities in Cardiff may have cost the tax payer and attracted public money away from the valleys, the new CCFC stadium is being financed by the club and private industry.
That's was the initial intent and hopfully it still is but there does seem from the outside that the Cardiff City council are holding the reins on this.
Well after putting together our best opening run in our history, notching up (I think) 26 out of 31 points, we are now closing in on the longest run without a win
How we are still 8th I have no idea. Just as well we got that start or we would be well into a relegation battle now.
It is not entirely clear to me either Ellis and I am sure there are more surprises in store.
However, as I understand it the club is now ownded by a group of relatively small shareholders rather than the hedge fuind investors who were originally going to buy it out. Sam Hammam no longer has any link withthe club. The board comprises a few of the prime movers behind the original takeover plus Mike Hall of rugby fame.
The club's debt has been reduced to around £2m from the £24m owed. Exactly who we owe that money to is unclear since the company (Langston) is registered in Switzerland. However the new board have reached a deal whereby they will pay off the debt from a combination of naming rights for the new stadium (which will definitely go ahead and is due to start in March), around £5m if the club gets into the premiership, a short-term share of the profits from the retail park which is part of the stadium project, etc.
From what I understand if we don't get promoted or the stadium does not get built then the money men to whom we owe money lose out not the club. I think the logic is that if they didn't accept this deal the club would have gone bust and they have got nothing anyway.
Anyway we have a new (fairly) local ownership, are relatively debt-free, a new stadium not far off which we will own 100%, a bit of money to spend on a few new players - we've just brought in a youngster from Chelsea on loan and bought a striker from an Irish club. All in all it probably isn't as rosy as it seemed a few weeks ago when we were top of league with big-money backers promising to pour funds into the club but a lot better than it seemed a week or so ago when we were 15 mins from administration!
I wonder what this weekend will bring? Oh yes, that's right we have the 1927 Airborne Division watching the Wolves game at Molineux from airships Never a dull moment as a City fan
There are actually two protests. There is a march through Wolverhampton which supporters from lots of clubs are attending. Also though there is the airship protest although since the participants will be able to watch the game from the air I'm not sure if it comes under the heading protest or not?
I thought the match was supposed be on TV, but unless it is on some obscure channel I am not aware of I cannot find it, the guys in work were all under the same impression. Do you know what happened to it? _________________
No it was never going to be on TV so far as I know. Just as well too It was on Five Live and I listened to some while in the kitchen but after Spurs scored 2 in 4 mins I turned off the radio. There is only so much a man can take...
Highlights were on BBCi after the Newcastle game made very interesting viewing for us old Spurs fans especially as Newcastle got stuffed(mind you they were extremely lucky last weekend)Cardiff are at least free now to concentrate on turning around their league form and getting back into contention.
