I passed through aber on tuesday, when driving with my ancient aunt from barry to visit my little bro in Brecon, had to drive over the new bridge, why doesn't the council market that as a tourist attraction.
It was my aunt's first visit there since my mum, her sister, died in 82 - she was shocked at the state of the place.
I have to say that the council really look after the cemetery at brynithel, much better than the local bunch of wallies here in Dover.
Apart from that the town looks moribund, didn't even stop to visit my youngest bro.
Very depressing.

It is what was Nicky Grist's, 21 Church St.

My understanding ( 2nd/3rd - perhaps even 10th - hand ) is that it is to be more of a coffee/tea shop than a cafe ie. no burgers and chips and the like. This is supported by the fact that the new proprietor runs the chippie next door.

I don't really know any more than that.

If I'm around and they're working in there I'll ask. I'm sure the proprietor wouldn't mind the news being spread.

Perhaps someone else will get there before me ?

It is opening as a Coffee Shop - the planned date is 10th June it's proper coffee and also Turkish coffee, Petros owns the chippy next store. The shop will be called The Coffee Bean, had a look around the other day with Petros and the standards he has set are excellent and I hope he does well, it looks like a great place to go and meet up and chat over a coffee, there will be an open morning on 10th June.
There is seating upstairs and down. Looks like Abertillery is getting a high class operation.

You should be very thankful for not stopping john, as in all likelihood you would have ended up stepping in the many piles of dog's mess that defile our pavements and streets.
As did my son and two grandchildren, while walking up clarence street to get ice-creams for them while visiting the park.
For the sake of the ten seconds, it would take the irresponsible owner's of some dog's to pick this mess up, it took my son 45 minute's to clean their shoes and cleanse them safely. It is not just an inconvenience it is a health issue that is not taken seriously enough.
I hope the cllrs that read these pages would take the time to read this article, respond to it, And take sustained ACTION on the issue.

I fear you may have serious problems Mr. Monk, have you recieved any help with your obvious learning disabilities and attention seeking behaviours.  Sleep deprivation can also bring on a severe psychosis, maybe you should stay in more....I suggest a clinic

Not been up there in a good few years since my grandparents passed away but I am surprised to hear that there are many piles of dog mess up Gelli Crug it's always been a really nice area why has it become so much of a problem now?

Maybe a ban on allowing dogs off leads in the park would help.  I know many children and adults take the dog out with them to run whilst playing footy or watching their kids on the swings in the park. Kids can be a little irresponsible, we would get a clip around the ears for stepping in dogs mess years ago and told to look where we were going.

Not sure how the council can respond in any other way other than more education as to the hazards of dogs mess encouraging owners to clear up after their dogs. Appointing a park warden or organised poop pick as they do litter.

Imposing a fine is not always useful unless you are suggesting they employ a pooper snooper or more surveillance cameras to catch the culprits. Are their enough bins for disposal of the dog mess in the area?

If you are out for the day with the kids you don't want to carry dogs mess around with you, taking your litter home does not present the same problem especially on a hot day. Maybe they should supply free disposable bio degradeable bags to dog owners so that they can dispose of the mess in their little food waste recycling bins and be encourage them to take it with them when walking their dogs or out for the day with the kids.

Just a few suggestions hope this helps

JUST ONE CORNETTO NOT DOG POOPY, DELICIOUS ICE-CREAM FROM CLARENCE STREET. THE MUCK AND DOGGY POO,
THATS ON THE PAVEMENT STICKA TO YOUR SHOOOES.
AND BY THE WAY BRYN, ANYONE THAT WANTS THEM THERE ARE FREE DOG POO BAGS AT CITIZENS ADVICE IN THE ARCADE.
YOU WILL NEVER EDUCATE SOMEONE THAT DOES NOT INTEND TO PICK UP AFTER THEIR DOG.

Everyone at some point or other has been critical of the Council.
Yet when they try and improve things some people will still not make use of the improvements IE: the new zebra crossing by the library making it a safer place to cross the road.
Some people crossing the road 5 metres from it then walking past it on the other side. You can't call the crossing a waste of money but it seems the council are wasting their time! trying to make improvements.

Whilst we're talking about the area down by the library, am I the only one who thinks the new road markings at the bottom of Station Hill are wrong.
If you're driving past the Library and want to turn up Station Hill, the new white lines don't make any sense. Surely there should be a "Box " marking (well thats what I call it) there ,so you can wait for the oncoming traffic to clear before you turn.
As the markings are now you need to disappear up your own exhaust pipe to stay inside them Laughing

Hopefully that might soon go and we'll have an effective method of easing traffic flow around that area Sunbeam.

Has anyone noticed how the zebra crossing is helping with the flow of traffic ?
Since cars have to stop to allow pedestrians right of way the traffic's been broken up and more cars seem to be able to exit Station Hill now.
