Granddad born in Blaenavon, Dad born in Abertillery
I lived in Glan Ebbw Terrace with my nan, and grancha, Galdys and Nobby Ford, for about a year when my mum and dad split up. Im unsure of the year but I was sent to the British so I must have been about 8 or 9 yrs. At this time the tin works was still operational, the Gaiety was closed, the Palace was still a cinema, the Bush was still a proper hotel and trains still used the track behind nans house. I dont remember any other kids in Glan Ebbw. I spent most of my free time playing with my nans dog, Lady, on the pavement outside the house.
My dad was one of the people chasing kids out of the depot in Carlyle St before he took early retirement from the R&W buses.
Every xmas when I was little there was a big party held either in the Ralphs Club or once I think in the Remploy building up the park. One year I won the dancing competition, twisting to Chubby Checkers 'Lets twist again' Another year I remember going up to get a present from Santa and announcing to the room that Santa was my dad in disguise!
Yes it was a photo of the American Tipper. I have a photo somewhere of them carrying the cross up on Easter and another with the cross in situ. I know I have the neg but just unable to find the print right now _________________ My life is no rehearsal There'll be no curtain call encore, so I've thrown my screwed up script away to ad lib my life once more!
I just got off the phone to Sue I'll make a point of popping down to see you over the next couple of weeks - I am sure Sue explained why I hadn't got back to you before now.
Anyway yes I am pretty certain the man in the light suit and glasses is my dad. I've no idea where it was taken though or what the event was. Presumably Dave one of your relatives is on there too - small world! Thanks very much for posting it Dave. _________________ The compliments pass when the quality meet.
