Having been involved with recycling for many years I would be interested to know what are your views on the new measures being introduced? _________________ This is my truth. Now tell me yours.
Pathetic ... whoever is distributing the bags need a brain scan!
Left on doorsteps when they can be easily posted through the letter box?
Half of my neighbours haven't had theirs because they have been `removed` from the doorstep by person or persons unknown (I'll bet there's a local house with dozens of these bags).
Luckily my wife spotted the bags thrown against our front door and got them in before they were `removed`!
I'm glad this subject has been brought up.
Could you please tell us CLLR, if as you say you have, been involved in recycling for many years.
The truth of the matter reguarding where our recycled waste is really going.
I have heard of people who walk on the moutain near the silent valley tipping site, and that they had seen the recycling wagons tipping the recycled items, (not waste) in a certain part of the site, and that these people on later visits took photo's?
And further rumours do the rounds' that this is a cover up so the council will not be fined by the E/U for not hitting recycling targets?
I find, as i'm sure others will this is worrying, and would like to be assured that rumour is all it is.

I only wish i could supply you with photo's CLLR unfortunately they as you said are the same rumours you have heard, I notice you talk in the past tense on what is recycled and what is not, with all the contraptions we have been supplied surely there is going to be very little left that is not recycleable. and if you say it is a reality that the council is doing it to save massive fines from the E/U.

The council continues to look for waste streams for recyclates and in fairness to the present council they have now included cardboard, which we were never able to introduce.
It is the change from boxes to bags that I would like opinions on the pros and cons, whether this will improve the service or not. What of the cost of all these changes, first with services and now containers. Why should bags improve the service in anyway or encourage more people to recycle?
I certainly won't be garden hopping after a hard days work to retrieve mine after they have blown away to the four corners of the earth like the cardboard ones do now and most bins and bin lids.

I was speaking to someone from Wastesavers in Newport the other week. She told me that in their experience, washed and separated recycling always had a market. In a glut, the dirty, mixed stuff might not get bought: I was left to draw my own conclusions about what happened to it.
I also picked up a leaflet from them which listed exactly where each type of waste was sent for recycling, e.g. steel cans to Corus in Port Talbot. It seemed to me to set the standard; wonder if BGCBC and its partners will be as conscientious.
Not recieved any sacks here, unless they have been nicked already. I don't see the point in having them, they will no doubt blow away in bad weather and I for one won't be searching for them, I had enough trouble with the bins although I must say the streets will be a lot quiter at nights with the sacks blowing about than bins and bin lids, It is a nightmare trying to sleep on a windy night clost to town centre.
I can understand why there is no need to separate them anymore since people will not fork out for Bio bags, well I won't that is one of the reasons why I don't recycle food waste, (I don't have room for the bins either) bio bin liners should be supplied I am afraid. Why can't they just supply one big wheely bin for it all and the same for rubbish. The bags have to be lifted and carried by the disabled and elderly _________________ My life is no rehearsal There'll be no curtain call encore, so I've thrown my screwed up script away to ad lib my life once more!
I am not sure what changes you mean Hedley unless it is the reported change from boxes to bags? I say reported changes because it is only through reading this forum I know about that. If that is what is planned then my view is that I'd prefer to keep the boxes. However, I am fortunate in having room in the garden for them. I don't find any real problem separating things out so being able to mix different types of material together wouldn't be a big advantage to me. _________________ The compliments pass when the quality meet.

At Env & Public Protection last week we had an update on Tidy Trev's coming under the Council's wing.
It was also noted that the new bags are being distributed, along with a leaflet informing householders of the start date.
I gather that in some areas people have started using them, despite the scheme not being rolled out yet.
Brynmawr has been a pilot scheme and recycling rates have gone from 23% to 29%.
The current boxes are households to keep, though we are looking at er.. recycling them if so desired. Look out for BGCBC on Ebay I suppose.
There's an advantage in attending meetings and/or talking to one's colleagues it seems. _________________ Rocke

Early morning we put out our blue and white bags (some used them last week , too early said Trev and left them where they were). Out the front all day the poor bags waited.....and waited....no sign of Trev. I return from work to the sight of 2 streets full of white and blue bags - lovely. Not
Evening time came. Rang C2BG....no more Monday for you they said...normal refuse day (Wed) TT will pick up your recycling with your normal refuse stuff.....a little tersely I thought. Hang on I said, normal refuse is out the back, TT is out the front. Nooooo, they said you were notified about these changes. OK, I said I must of missed that. I'll check she said.....ahh she said, TT is normal refuse day out the front for you ....ahh I said. You were notified they said. Hang on I said, the street is full of blue and white, it can't be just me ? You were notified she repeated. All I had was a slip of paper saying 6 July we use the new bags...nowt else, I said. I think you need to re-send that notification as there are a lot of peeps in my situation I said. We'll look into she said.....
So what do I think of the new arrangements. Badly organised and (pardon the pun) rubbish! _________________ Top tip: never put anything in your ear smaller than your elbow

I've had a similar problem Jools, I say similar because I put out my boxes as usual and they left them, altogether, completely, totally. Then my friend (neighbour Sandra came up & said both she and her immediate neighbour had one hell of an up & downer with the recycler and then with 'er in doors. The staff are having a good time I reckon. They mustn't be bullied, of course, but they need guidance.
We don't see a Cwmtillery Councillor around here. Hedley came up, as he does of an evening, and he couldn't understand it, but it's sorted now. Do you know I've never had a problem before. It's so frustrating. Genuinely. My boxes would go missing, but that was down to tealeaves. I'd report it, they were replaced & the staff-courteous with it.
